The Forgotten
Sons and Daughters of Dittweiler, by
Heinrich Becker (translated by Jim Andris). My brother teaches German at
Marietta High School. He gave me this fascinating article from a publication
in honor of the 675th Jubilee of the town of Dittweiler in the Rhineland-Pfalz
area of Germany. In it we hear how the residents of the Kohlbach Valley,
which is just a few kilometers from the Noes, the Fickeisens and the Buertels
of my ancestry, migrated in the early 19th Century to Washington, County,
Ohio. No doubt many of these followed very similar paths to the ones taken
by my great great grandparents.

Using mapquest, I pieced together this hypermap,
which shows the birthplace of all my
mother's continental ancestors, with links to more detailed maps. There
are maps with scale 30 miles, 10 miles, 4 miles and 1 mile. The 1 mile
scale maps indicate ancestor name and birth community.
