GROUP CLASS TEACHERS

Angelina McLaughlin-Heil received her Suzuki training from SIUE and University of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She has a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from SIUE and currently teaches orchestra in the Ferguson-Florissant School District.

Ellen Singh (reading classes) has had a lifelong joy of and experience with music and young children. She is a licensed Kindermusik instructor and a graduate of both the University of Evansville (B.S. in Sociology and Interpersonal Communications) and the University of Illinois (Master's Degree in Social Work). Musically, she has her foundations in piano and flute as well as having taught herself to play electric bass guitar. Ellen has performed in various musical groups in high school and college, as well as church and various community orchestras. As a licensed Kindermusik instructor, Ellen brings the love of music, movement, and learning to children and families in this community, in partnership with the SIUE Suzuki program. in her Kindermusik classes, and the Suzuki Program Pre-Reading Music Theory classes. Her greatest love is being a mother of her three young children, two of whom are in the SIUE Suzuki Program

Graduate Students—2007-2008

 

Anita Kaimal (violin and viola) received her B.M. in violin performance as well as K-12 teaching certification from The University of Iowa in 2007.  Anita also had the opportunity to complete her student teaching experience in Sydney, Australia at Methodist Ladies College (MLC-a Suzuki school). Anita is currently pursuing a Masters in Music Education degree and is studying with Vera McCoy-Sulentic in earning a Suzuki Specialization. She is also the 2007-2008 Graduate Assistant for the SIUE Suzuki Program.

Erika Lord-Castillo (violin, viola) grew up in Iowa City, Iowa, and earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance from the University of Iowa in 2005. She has done short-term Suzuki training with Michelle George, Moshe Neumann, and Judy Weigert Bossuat. She will enter the SIUE Master's Program in Music Education in Spring 2008, and study Suzuki pedagogy with Vera McCoy-Sulentic. After graduating from Iowa, she lived in Corvallis, Oregon for two years, where she taught privately and in the Corvallis Public Schools through the Corvallis Youth Symphony's Elementary Strings Program. Besides playing the violin and viola, Erika enjoys knitting, hiking, and reading.
