The Teachers

Vera McCoy-Sulentic (violin) directs our Suzuki Program at SIUE. She has been a registered teacher trainer for the Suzuki Association of the Americas for the past ten years. Her field experience includes four years of public school teaching in Eugene, Oregon, and six years as a string specialist in the Edwardsville public schools. She is a clinician at international Suzuki workshops and received SIUE's Excellence in Teaching award in 1996. She received an M.M. Education from SIUE (including teacher training with John Kendall), a BM from the U. of Oregon, and a BA from the U. of Iowa.

Joseph Bradley (violin) was born and raised in Puerto Rico and had his first violinlesson when at 12 years old.  His Bachelor\s Degree is from the Conservatory of Music in Puerto Rico and his Master's Degree is in Violin Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy is from SIUE.  Joseph works for Pattonville School District as a high school orchestra, general music, guitar, piano and theory teacher.  After coming to the United States six years ago, this area has become his home.

Linda Bristol (violin) is a much-loved orchestra teacher here in Edwardsville, IL. She has a BME from Lindenwood College and her MME from SIUE. Linda's three children all play violin. She studied Suzuki pedagogy with John Kendall and Carol Smith. Her daughter, Heather, is a Suzuki teacher in Montana.

Glenda Piek (cello) is originally from South Africa, where she played in professional orchestras for 17 years is Cape Town, Pretoria, Johannesburg, and lectured at Potchefstroom University. She obtained her master's degree at Western Illinois University under the tutelage of Dr. Tanya Carey. She has been teaching in the SIUE Suzuki program since 1992. She also teaches in St. Louis for the St. Louis Symphony Community Music School. She is frequently invited to teach in Europe and Africa. Despite having close to 70 students, Glenda still finds the time to arrange music for her cello ensembles and leads some of our finest cellos in her Cello Ensemble. Some of her former students are at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Julliard, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the Royal Academy in London.

Susanna Tichenor (violin and viola) grew up in the Suzuki Program at SIUE and studied with many SIUE faculty and graduate assistants who are now renowned Suzuki teachers worldwide.  Susanna graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University and SIUE with Bachelors and Masters Degrees in music performance. Her mentor is Winifred Crock, renowned string teacher and Suzuki teacher and her sister as well! Susanna taught in Suzuki programs at Illinois Wesleyan University, as well as programs in Jacksonville, IL (Illinois College) and Champaign, IL. She has taught public school (high school and elementary) in the Parkway and Edwardsville school districts. Susanna taught the cello class on Saturday mornings for SIUE. Susanna plays the viola frequently as a free-lance musician in St. Louis, Missouri, and all over Illinois, including being a contracted member of the Muny Orchestra. She has played with Ray Charles, Vince Gill, Smokey Robinson (July 4th at Fair St. Louis) and others. Susanna is the applied violin teacher at Lewis and Clark Community College and Greenville College. Susanna has three children Š two in the SIUE Suzuki Program!

Clara Warren Binnington (violin and viola) holds a BA in Music Education from Seattle Pacific University and a Master's in Music Education from SIUE, where she did Suzuki teacher training with Vera McCoy-Sulentic and Carol Smith. She taught and substitute-taught in the Shoreline, Mehlville, and Alton school districts. She is a member of the SIUE String Quartet and has been a member of the SIUE Suzuki Faculty since 1998. Clara is the coordinator of the String House ensemble.

Allison Huebner-Woerner (violin and viola) earned her BSEd in Music Education from the University of Missouri at Columbia and her MM in violin performance from SIUE. She did doctoral studies at the University of Missouri at Columbia, where she was John McLeod's doctoral assistant. She did long-term Suzuki teacher training with John Kendall and Carol Smith and has been a faculty member of the SIUE Suzuki program since 1994. She is Founder and Director of St. Charles Suzuki Strings, now called Ballwin Strings. She has played in numerous St. Louis-area orchestras and string quartets, including the St. Louis Philharmonic and the Florissant Valley Orchestra, for which she served as concertmaster and soloist. Allison conducts EYO and is the director of our Tour Group!

Nancy Anderson (Music Play) holds a master's degree in music education from the University of Illinois. She has also done continuing education courses in Orff certification, Dalcroze training, Voice Care Network certification, and Gordon Early Childhood Music. Nancy is an elementary music teacher in the Cahokia public schools and serves as a church choir director in addition to teaching music and movement for the SIUE String Development program. She is a clinician for workshops dealing with music and movement, brain development, and the pre-K child.

Corinne Erb is a graduate student at SIUE. She spent her first 22 years in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and now she is very happy to be exploring the Midwest. She started the violin at age 4 with the Suzuki method and continued to study violin in college. She has her BA from Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania with majors in Music and French. In her spare time, she loves soccer, tennis, cooking and traveling. Someday she would like to teach with her sister, who currently teaches Suzuki piano in the Philadelphia area.

Myra Moss is from Roswell, Georgia, and is pursuing a MasterÕs Degree in violin performance with an emphasis in Suzuki pedagogy at SIUE. She graduated from the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio with a BachelorÕs of Music Degree in August 2003. She began playing the violin at the age of nine and has loved it ever since. Ms. Moss has attended several music festivals including the Brevard Music Festival, the Summer Institute at the Kennedy Center, and the California Summer Music Festival. She has had the opportunity to participate in the master classes of Paul Katz, the Lark Quartet, James Buswell, and the Alexander String Quartet. Her principal teachers include Pat Cobos of Columbus State University and David Arenz of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Myra has also played in several professional orchestras such as the Macon Symphony Orchestra and the La Grange Symphony. Besides playing the violin, she loves reading, horseback riding, traveling, and listening to many different kinds of music. Welcome, Myra!
