Career Summary

Dr. Ann Taylor is currently Elementary Program Director responsible for both graduate and undergraduate levels.  She also works with Dr O'Donnell in the elementary mathematics education program in the School of Education.  Dr Taylor  was Site Director for the Belleville 118 Professional Development Schools Program 2000-2002.  Prior to coming to SIUE she was a teacher educator for 10 years at Principia College, Elsah, IL, where she served as department chair for 3 years.  This period included successfully completing the reaccreditation processes with the State of Illinois. In the UK, she taught 6-12th grade at three different public urban institutions, and participated in extensive curriculum development. 

Research Interests

Her current research projects include:

Use of audio-tape analysis to support teacher learning.

Use of” lesson study” as a professional development model  with preservice and in-service  teachers. 

The role of the mathematics methods class in teacher education.

An ethnographic study of the Mathematically Rich 1st Grade Classroom. 

What teachers learn from what 1st graders understand about the digits in 16
