Xfest is back and it’s more xciting than ever! SIUE’s third annual experimental theater festival, Xfest 3.0, welcomes theater companies from across the nation to entertain, inspire and spark creativity on campus and in our community. This year is special in that we are dedicating significant portions of this year’s Xfest to providing rich learning experiences designed specifically with college-level theater enthusiasts in mind, as well as offering special pricing for interested groups. If you are involved in college-level theater, don’t pass up this opportunity to inject a new element of creativity into your program.
Xfest 3.0 is a continuation of our dedicated effort to introduce our campus and community to local and national alternative theatre productions, and to grow as a center for artists to discuss and create new work. This year especially, we welcome theater students, professionals and enthusiasts to campus for a weekend of theatrical education and development.
As a Department of Theater and Dance within a liberal arts university, part of our strategic plan is to seek an identity that makes our department unique among our peers, as well as other liberal arts B.A. theater programs across the country. We believe that exposing our students to unique styles of theater and allowing them freedom to understand and create their own theater works can make this happen. We also believe in sharing these opportunities with our peers, which is why we have expanded and defined our efforts to reach college-level theater students and professionals.
In addition to our academic season of eclectic plays and summer season of musicals, this is a wonderful opportunity to bring a different style of theater to our community. It is also a chance to expand the University's Arts & Issues series into the early summer. Without the support of Arts & Issues and the University, this dream might not have happened. We also thank University Marketing and Communications for seeing the potential of this event and adding their advice and energies.
