When Trying to Save a Document, Luminis Takes you Back to the Login Screen

java logoIssue:  Luminis kicks you out to the login screen when trying to save a document you have edited, and the page edits aren't saved.

Reason:  You have updated (or your computer has auto-updated) to a more recent version of Java that is not compatible with Luminis.

Solution:  You will need to uninstall your current version of Java and install a version of Java that is compatible with Luminis.  The version we have found to be compatible is Java 6 Update 20.

--------

Step by step process:

(print this page before proceeding...you will be asked to restart your browser during the process)

  1. Uninstall your current version of Java:
    http://java.com/en/download/uninstall.jsp
  2. Install a compatible version of Java (Java 6 Update 20)
    64-bit: Download
    32-bit: Download
(To determine if you need the 64 or 32-bit version, click the Start button (round Windows icon in Windows 7), then right click on 'Computer'.  Under the 'System' heading, and next to 'System Type', it will say if you have a 32 or 64-bit operating system.)
  3. Turn off the auto update feature of Java
    http://www.java.com/autoupdate
Note:  If you are running the 64-bit version fo Java, you may not see the 'Update' tab.  If so, you will need to:
    1. Go to c:\program files (x86)\Java\jre1.5.0_17\bin
    2. Right-click on javacpl.exe.
    3. Select Run as administrator
    4. The Update tab should now appear
(if you can not run programs as an administrator, contact your system administrator, building tech or ITS Help Desk, etc.)

NOTE:  Any page that you were working on when Luminis kicked you out, is still checked out.  After fixing the Java issue, you will need to Log back in to your Luminis site and 'Cancel Checkout' on any pages that are still checked out.
