Dustin Hancks, Biological Sciences

Project: "Hybridzation Between Fundulus olivaceus and F. notatus Assessed Using Single Nucleotide Diagnostic Markers"
Mentor: David Duvernell

Special Notes: Dustin was a contributing author to the journal article "Hybridization and reproductive isolation among syntopic populations of the topminnows Fundulus notatus and F. olivaceus" (D.D. Duvernell, J.F. Schaefer, D.C. Hancks, J.A. Fonoti, A.M. Ravanelli, Journal of Evolutionary Biology, Volume 20, Issue 1, January 2007, Pages 152-164

He presented his research at the the Evolution 2006 Conference in New York (SUNY Stonybrook) in Summer 2006 and the American Association for the Advancement of Science Annual Meeting in St. Louis, the Illinois State Academy of Sciences Annual Meeting in Chicago and SIUE Graduate School's 10th Annual Research Graduate Symposium, all in Spring 2006. Dustin is attending graduate school (Cell and Molecular Biology) at the University of Pennsylvania

Special Notes: Heather presented her research at the 46th Annual Convention of the Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association at Rosemont, IL, the American Association for the Advancement of Science's Annual Meeting, and SIUE Graduate School's 10th Annual Research Graduate Symposium, all in Spring 2006. She is pursuing a masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology at SIUE



Ross Mead, Computer Science
Project: "Algorithms for Control and Interaction of Large Formations of Robots"
Mentors: Jerry Weinberg and William White

Special Notes: Ross presented his research at the Twenty-first National Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Boston in July 2006 and at SIUE Graduate School's 10th Annual Student Research Graduate Symposium in April 2006. He was also a member of the 2006-07 Undergraduate Research Academy with his project "Impromptu Teams of Heterogeneous Mobile Robots"



Jennifer Mellick, Social Work

Project: "The Effects of Increased Security Measures in Selected Metro East High Schools"

Nathan Motl, Chemistry

Project: "The Effect of Coordination of Cyclopropylalkynes to Metal"
Mentor: Mike Shaw

Special Notes: Nathan presented his research at the American Chemical Society's Annual Meeting and Exposition in Atlanta and SIUE Graduate School's 10th Annual Student Research Graduate Symposium, both in Spring 2006. He will be pursuing his PhD in Chemistry at Pennsylvania State University beginning in fall 2007.



Jay Munyon, Biological Sciences (Ecology, Evolution, Environment)

Project: "Analysis of Cougar Lake Illinois Food Chain Using Sable Isotopes of Nitrogen and Carbon"
Mentor: Richard Brugam

Special Notes: Jay presented his research at The Ecological Society of America's 91st Annual Meeting in Memphis in August 2006 and the llinois State Academy of Sciences Annual Meeting in Chicago in April 2006. He is pursuing a masters degree in Biology at Florida International University.



Shari Pray, Art and Design (Metalsmithing)

Project: "Aesthetic and Conceptual Coloring of Metal Through Patination"
Mentor: Paulette Myers

Special Note: Shari received a 2006 Student Scholarship from the Society of North American Goldsmiths for outstanding metalsmithing work and endless contributions to the Metalsmithing Area at SIUE



Trina Reichenbacher, Biological Sciences (Medical Science)

Project: "Fusing Apoptotic Cells with Viable Cells to Induce Cell Death"
Mentor: Paul Wanda

Special Note: Trina is employed as an associate scientist in genetic toxicology at Pfizer, Inc. in St. Louis



Mircea Sauciuc, English Language and Literature

Project: "Direction Types in Romanian"

: Mircea presented his research at the 4th Annual Undergraduate Linguistics Colloquium at Harvard University in April 2006. He is pursuing a masters degree in Linguistics at the University of Kansas



Veronica Schwartz, Biological Sciences (Medical Science)
Project: "The Cytopathic Effects of Canine Distemper Virus Infection on Vero Cells: Does CDV Induce Apoptosis?"
Mentor: Paul Wanda

Special Note: Veronica will be pursuing a degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Missouri beginning in Fall 2007



Sara Sparr, Biological Sciences (Genetic Engineering)

Project: "Effects of C-8 Ceramine on Protein Content and Cell Viability in Human ARPE-19 Cells"
Mentor: Paul Wanda

Special Note: Sara presented her research at the Illinois State Academy of Sciences Annual Meeting in Chicago in April 2006. She is employed as a laboratory technologist at Prairie Farms in Granite City, IL



Kristen Spence, Nursing

Project: "Adolescent High School Students' Perspectives Toward Teen Pregnancy: An Intervention Study"
Mentor: Laura Bernaix
