The Staff Senate holds events annually to raise funds for the University Staff Senate Scholarship which are awarded fall, spring and summer.
Presently, scholarship applications are accepted three times a year. The Faculty for Collective Bargaining Scholarship application process is held during the fall semester around October and is awarded for the spring semester.
Applications for the Summer Staff Senate Scholarship are collected in the spring semester in time to be awarded for Summer classes.
The fall scholarship process takes place in the summer semester around the middle of June and is awarded in time for the fall semester.
The University Staff Senate Scholarship Selection Committee, an ad hoc committee, has the responsibility of reviewing applications and determining the eligibility of each applicant for the awards.
After the scholarship amount is determined by the Staff Senate, the award process is in accordance to the Staff Senate Scholarship Handbook.
Each April the Staff Senate holds a BBQ in conjunction with the Chancellor's Walk and the Benefits and Wellness Fair. In the past, the event was held in the Vadalabene Center, but in 2013 was changed and held in the Meridian Ballroom, Morris University Center.
Lunch is served by the Staff Senate and employees can conveniently browse the tables for information concerning their benefits as employees of SIUE.
Proceeds from the BBQ event are raised for the Staff Senate Scholarship Fund for future scholarships.
The Ice Cream Cabaret is held during Cougar Welcome at the arrival of the fall semester. In August 1999 the Staff Senate made its first ever "Call for Performers" to the university seeking volunteer performances for the first ever Ice Cream Cabaret.
The Cabaret was developed as a fun and welcoming event to be held during Welcome Week to bring together staff and faculty across the campus to showcase our in-house talent while raising funds to support the Staff Senate Scholarship Fund.
The "build your own sundae" is the signature treat offered and includes all the toppings you would find at a traditional ice cream shoppe. A hot dog cart is also available for those wishing to purchase hot food while enjoying the entertainment. Door prizes, solicited from the various schools throughout the university community, are also available to lucky attendees.
Over the years, we have seen and heard many great performances and have enjoyed many emcees. There has been singing, dancing, dramatic dialogues, trivia, juggling and clogging. We have showcased artwork as well as balloon art. We have had performances by duos, trios, groups, troupes and choirs.
In 2013, the Ice Cream Cabaret will be celebrating its 14th year. We hope you will -
