APPROVED MINUTES
Announcements: Rich Hampton from University Relations will speak today about USS Scholarships Funds including endowment and reserve funds.
The regular meeting of the Staff Senate was called to order on December 4, 2008 at 9:05 a.m. in the MUC International Room by Brian Lotz, President.

Approval of November 6, 2008 Minutes: Jesse B. Harris, Jr. made a motion to accept the minutes and Jeff Robinson seconded. The minutes were approved as is.
Treasurer’s Report: Jesse reported the balances as of October 31, 2008:

Terry Downey made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report and Jeff Robinson seconded. The motion carried.
Melanie Schoenborn made a motion for $2500.00 to be transferred from the Benefit account to the Scholarship Account for possible scholarships for 2009 and the Fall. It was seconded by Jesse. The motion passed.
Rich Hampton gave a PowerPoint presentation and answered questions about the University Staff Senate Scholarship Funds and Faculty for Collective Bargaining Scholarship Funds, endowments and reserves.

The meeting was called back to order at 10:11 a.m. by Brian, President.
Old Business:
Scholarship Committee: Melanie Schoenborn reported the results from the Faculty for Collective Bargaining selection committee.
Melanie made a motion to add the following direction to the directions on the application cover page of all scholarship applications “Please do not give any self-identification in the essay and the application form.” The motion was withdrawn because everyone’s thoughts are that the original application needs the specific information for office records. White Out could be used as in the past, before the Selection Committee receives them.
Melanie made a motion for the Governance Secretary to move the GPA from the first page of the application to the rating form for each application and add the candidate’s assigned letter to the rating form. The motion was approved.
Brown Bag Luncheon Series & SUAA topic update: December 18, 2008 at 11:30 in Jesse hopes that the Staff Senate can encourage people to come. Terry Downey will post the flyer throughout the campus.
New Business: Melanie read the announcement for the memorial service for Mary Robinson in the Goshen Lounge at 10:00 am Friday. She was a good friend to the Staff Senate.
Brian will invite the new MUC Administrative Assistant and the new Food Services Director to the January Staff Senate meeting.

Professional Staff – Non Represented Professional Staff received back pay from pay lost when Banner was installed.
Satellite Campus Reports
Alton – Jackie Candela reported that the parking lot refurbishing is done. Alton had their first Chili Cook-off with soup and dessert
E. St. Louis – Jesse informed us of the Kathryn Dunham exhibit at museum. East St. Louis Performing Arts helped around 20 families with food and cash donations they collected.
UPBC – minutes posted on www.siue.edu/ugov/staff Next week’s topic will be fee increases.
Policy Review committee – no report
Fundraising Committee – BBQ April 23, 2009, Jesse will look into a few ideas brought up for new fundraising. Melanie will make 5 rhubarb pies this year. Terry Downey wants to send a thank you to donors who have contributed throughout the year.
Goals Committee – no report
Newsletter – Labels should be ready next week to attach to newsletters. There was a discussion to bring back the contest for the Staff Senate newsletter name.
Council of Councils – meeting in January.
