JOB DESCRIPTION : One tenured faculty member to serve as Ombuds-person for all faculty and teaching staff on the SIUE campuses. The new Ombuds-person will work with the current Ombuds-Person to provide impartial, confidential and informal resolution of disputes for faculty, teaching staff and administrators. The Ombuds-person will seek to help those faculty with interpersonal misunderstandings as well as those concerned with more administrative or academic issues. The main goal of the Ombuds-person is to mediate conflict. S/he will not serve to adjudicate breaches in formal administrative policies (a formal grievance procedure is in place for this purpose). As a result, the Ombuds-person will listen, offer options and facilitate resolution to those in conflict. This will be done without preference to one party over another. Rather, the goal of the Ombuds-person will be to mediate disputes and ensure that all parties' voices are heard.
TERM OF CONTRACT: Up to a three-year appointment---must be available one summer month.
SALARY RANGE : a 33 1/3% teaching release per semester plus one month's summer salary is being offered.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Must be a full-time tenured faculty member at SIUE. Must have strong organizational and communication skills and have a strong commitment towards alternative dispute resolution.
