Annual report from spring 07 was presented and corrections were made.

II. Business

A. Teacher-scholar model. Baier reported T-S model is being discussed by the Faculty Senate Executive Council (FSEC) and will be presented to the faculty by Steve Hanson in October.

B. Service Learning Award. Baier reported that Provost Ferguson and Faculty Senate President Covington are discussing the service learning award. A decision about whether the FDC will proceed with this award will be made in time for the October FDC meeting.

C. EUE. Pallemans reported on committee work by Poirier, Petroburgo, and himself during the summer to develop an EUE Impact Award for recognition of outstanding EUE awards. The submissions would be judged on impact and evidence-based outcomes that underscore the goals and priorities of the EUE program. Brown suggested that specific selection criteria be presented to the Provost when Pallemans presents this proposal on September 27. Watson moved that FDC request 3 EUE Impact Awards be given for exceptional EUEs in the amount of $1000 each and that the winners be selected by FDC and presented to the Provost for his approval. The motion was seconded and carried.

Pallemans will issue the call for 2008-09 EUEs to the faculty at the end of October and offer workshops in November and January. The EUE deadline will be February 1st. Before the October FDC meeting, he will circulate by email to FDC members the EUE criteria and priorities for discussion at the October FDC meeting.

D. FDC faculty symposium January 24, 2008

Baier reported on meetings of Kerber, Pallemans, Vandever, Watson, Sill and herself over the summer to set the date, determine a tentative theme, and tentative agenda for the symposium. Suggestions were made for revising the theme to “Changing Faculty Roles: The Next 50 (10? 20?) Years.”
Titles for panels proposed include “Changing students” with Dave Sill and Scott Belobrajdic; “Impact of technology on faculty roles” with Jennifer Vandever and Kathy Behm; “EUE innovations” with 3 EUE Impact Award winners; and either a discussion of Teacher-scholar-service roles or a panel of authors from SIUE academic disciplines book that is being prepared.
The Symposium program will be finalized at the October FDC meeting.

III. The meeting was adjourned at 4. The next regular meeting is October 18, 2007, from 2:30-4 p.m. in the MUC Board Room.
