- Functions of the Committee
The RPAB reviews applications for funding for the Research Grants for Graduate Students (RGGS) Program and makes recommendations to the Graduate School Dean concerning the awarding of funds.
The RPAB also selects the Paul Simon Outstanding Scholar Award winner. The RPAB reviews other faculty research competitions, such as the Hoppe Research Professor Award and the Vaughnie J. Lindsay New Investigator Award, at the request of the Graduate Dean or the Graduate Council.
The RPAB may also review proposals submitted for other research competitions at the request of the Graduate Dean or the Graduate Council.
- Membership and Number
The Board consists of five at-large members who serve three-year staggered terms. Replacements are elected by the Graduate Council from nominees selected by the Educational and Research Policies Committee in consultation with the Graduate Dean. Nominees are from units not represented in the upcoming term. If nominated, a member whose term is expiring is eligible for re-election. The chair of the committee is elected from among the membership.
- Selection Procedure
- The Educational and Research Policies Committee, in consultation with the Graduate Dean, generates a list of nominees from units not currently represented on the RPAB, including the units from which current memberships are expiring.
Members of the Educational and Research Policies Committee are responsible for securing nominees from their respective units. In addition, academic school/college deans and directors of academic units are notified of the election by the chairperson of the Educational and Research Policies Committee. Any faculty member with a research record is eligible to apply or to be nominated; the willingness of the candidate to serve should be ascertained prior to nomination. Candidate vitae are forwarded to the Graduate Office for reproduction and distribution.
- The slate of candidates is forwarded to the Graduate Council, along with the candidates' vitae. Ballots listing the candidates are made available to the members of the Graduate Council. Each Council member votes for the open position(s). The individual(s) receiving the highest number of votes will be elected.
