Funding Needs and Priorities

Private gifts from alumni and friends of the SIUE School of Nursing directly impact students, faculty, outreach and research in important ways, and advance the on-going success of School.

Ongoing Funding Priorities

General Development Fund
Gifts of any size to the School of Nursing’s Annual Development Fund are needed to support ongoing, important and emerging needs of the School that are not covered by state funds.

Annual Student Scholarships
There is a need to increase the number of annually funded student scholarships available for the region’s most talented and deserving nursing students. Currently a total of $20,000 is awarded annually. With over 1,200 students, the goal is to double the amount of annual scholarships.

Student Nurses Achievement Program (SNAP)
Private gifts provide the financial assistance and resources need to support academic and career success for underserved students enrolled in SNAP (a special, five-year bachelor of science in nursing program). Contributions change lives and futures, while increasing diversity in the nursing profession.

High-Impact, Endowed Scholarship Campaign and 2016 Celebration Event

"Honoring the Past - Empowering the Future"

Campaign Co-Chairs: Saundra Spilotro '69 and Cody Gowler '09

The Alumni Advisory Board and Campaign Co-Chairs have stepped forward to champion the School of Nursing’s first endowed scholarship campaign for the purposes of establishing a fund that will be there in perpetuity to attract and retain the region’s most talented and deserving undergraduate and graduate students of nursing. Together we can meet the need for highly qualified baccalaureate- and graduate-level prepared nurses serving the diverse, complex and evolving health care needs of patients and providers in the Southern Illinois region and beyond.

Purpose: The recent 50th Anniversary of SIUE School of Nursing means the time is right to re-unite five decades of more than 5,500 alumni living and working in all 50 states in the shared challenge of “Honoring the Past – Empowering the Future.”

Goal: Four $25,000 Endowed Scholarships = $100,000 over 18 months

Impact: The School of Nursing Alumni Board will champion the selection of criteria and recipients for four fully-endowed scholarships that best represents the entire alumni base. Stories about the scholarship recipients and their nursing careers will be shared with all alumni in the Annual Dean’s Report and newsletters.

Gift Types:
Friends Pooled Fund Gifts – one-time gifts of $1 to $249 to help reach our overall goal
Leadership Pooled Funds Gifts – one-time gifts of $250+ to help reach our overall goal
Named Scholarship Gifts – one-time and multi-year pledges totaling $25,000 to establish donor designated endowed scholarship fund for students who meet donor specified merit and/or need criteria

Timeline: October 2014/Launch – April 2016/Completion

Theme: Over the course of the campaign, we will be reaching out to and visiting with School of Nursing alumni to listen, capture and share stories about your “Defining Moments in my Nursing Career."

Recognition Event: In Spring 2016, a special event will be held to recognize School of Nursing alumni and friends contributions to the campaign, nursing profession and patient-care community, and to celebrate the Class of ’66’s 50th Reunion.
