Community Nursing Services


Community Nursing Services is a nurse-managed health center sponsored by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Nursing. Community Nursing Services provides wellness and primary care services to a variety of patients and clients in St. Clair and Madison counties. The professional nursing staff consists of School of Nursing advanced practice and clinical nurse specialist faculty. Community Nursing Service is committed to improving the health of the community and its residents by:

  • Providing comprehensive and evidence-based wellness and primary care services
  • Serving as consultants to local agencies and health care providers in the areas of health education, health care delivery, and health care management
  • Working with residents, health care providers, and agencies to identify and develop plans to meet the health needs of local communities
  • Participating in the education of students in professional nursing and other health careers

Community Nursing Services serves the East Saint Louis and surrounding communities by providing affordable health care and educational services to residents and students.

These services are provided under the supervision of SIUE faculty and staff as a function of their teaching, research, service, and practice mission.

Available Services
There are many services offered by Community Nursing Services which are performed by specialized nurses including Advanced Practice Nurses and Community Health Nurses. Each nurse has an advanced education, which can help you and your family maintain wellness and manage other health care needs.

These services include:

  • School, sport, and employment physical examinations
  • Immunizations and vaccinations
  • Health screenings including blood sugar, lead, hemoglobin, venous and arterial disease, prostate screening, fall risk safety at home, fall risk assessment, hearing, and vision
  • Evaluating and managing acute illnesses
  • Assisting clients with chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, and asthma
  • Educating individuals and families about normal growth and development, health habits, safety, medication poly-pharmacy and nutrition
  • Counseling families
  • Referring individuals and families to other health professionals or community agencies
