When: Saturday, September 24, 2016--8:30AM-1:30PM
Where: Morris University Center (Registration & Keynote in the Meridian Ballroom)
Who: All Registered Student Organizations (must send two representatives) and members of the Student Leadership Development Program
Why: The Student Organization Leadership Orientation (SOLO) is a leadership training and orientation program for all registered student organizations at SIUE. This interactive program will provide student organizations with the tools necessary to be successful at SIUE. Topics will include Marketing, Funding Procedures, Policies & Procedures that govern all groups at SIUE, and various leadership topics. Groups that do not attend the program will be ineligible to receive funding from Student Government or space in the Kimmel Student Involvement Center (office/locker) during the 2016-2017 school year).
How to Register: Click here to register your organization to attend SOLO (it will be helpful to know who will attend the program before you register)
Does the President of the organization have to attend this session?
No. We strongly encourage officers to attend the session, but we welcome any member of your organization to serve as the representatives at the session.
Can one person represent multiple organizations?
Yes. A student may represent as many groups as they wish, as long as they are an active member of that organization.
Can my organization send more than two representatives?
Yes. We will accept additional representatives on a first come, first served basis. Please indicate on your registration form that you would like to send additional representatives and we will contact you to get more information.
My organization never requests funds from Student Government. Why should we attend?
This session will provide great information about Marketing, Recruitment, Retention, general leadership skills for individual members, and policies and procedures that govern all organizations. The information provided will be valuable to all groups--even if you don't plan to request funds from Student Government (however, you might learn about something that you can get funded through Student Government at the session!).
What happens if my organization does not send representatives to the program?
If your organization does not send representatives to the program, you will be ineligible for all funding from Student Government for the 2016-2017 academic year (including funds already allocated for programs, travel, and annual allocations) and will not be able to receive space in the Kimmel Student Involvement Center (offices and lockers--including groups that currently hold space).
My organization cannot send representatives to the program on September 24. What should we do?
We understand that there might be rare instances where an entire organization would be unavailable to attend this program. However, since most groups have 10-30 members, you should be able to find two people to attend the program. If you have no members that can attend the program, the President should email Michelle Welter at firstname.lastname@example.org with information about why the members cannot attend. Michelle will work with the organization to determine the best course of action.
Should advisers attend SOLO?
While we always welcome advisers at any of our programs, this session is specifically for our student organization leaders. If you would like to serve as a presenter at the program for the breakout sessions, please contact Michelle Welter at email@example.com for more information.
A training for Student Organization Advisers will be offered in October--more information to come!
