If you are a student at one of our partner universities, please contact the International Office or Exchange Program Coordinator at your home school to find out whether you meet your home school's eligibility criteria to apply for study as an exchange student at SIUE. All prospective exchange students wishing to study at SIUE must be nominated by their home university.
Application packets should be sent to SIUE's Office of International Affairs by the nominating school.
Tuition, Fees and Housing Costs - Exchange students pay tuition to home university and pay SIUE for mandatory university fees. The amount of fees depends on the number of semester hours. Exchange students are required to register for a minimum of 12 semester hours, which usually is four courses. Exchange students are required to live on campus, and normally are placed inCougar Village Apartments. SIUE housing costs are billed per semester.
The following forms and documents must arrive at SIUE Office of International Affairs no later than the application deadline:
May 1 for fall semester; November 1 for spring semester

DS-2019 Request Form - the DS2019 is the form needed to apply for a J-1 Visiting Student Visa for study in the United States

Complete an International Student Financial Form - You and the sponsor(s) must sign this form. The bank statement must reflect a minimum amount of $7,500 per semester ( International Student Financial Form)
Financial/bank statement - The bank statement(s) must reflect the amount of funds provided by the sponsor, bear the original signature of a representative of the bank or financial institution and it must be dated within 90 days from the date it is received by our office. Proof of financial support must be received and approved before an DS-2019 will be issued.
Official Academic Transcript from home university with grades
Copy of passport - page with photo and biographical information
Official TOEFL Score Report sent to SIUE (Test date must be within two years from the term we process your application. Minimum scores: 79-80 on IB-TOEFL, 550 on PB-TOEFL) SIUE's institutional code for reporting scores is 1759
A List of at Least 8 Proposed SIUE Courses - Exchange students are required to take 12 credit hours (usually 4 courses) to meet the full course load requirement. Select 8 courses that fit with your academic needs. The list should include the course code and course title. For example:

Submit Submit proof of health insurance - All J-1 International Students are required by law to have health insurance. Health insurance documentation should be in English and cover you from the date of arrival in the U.S. until the date of departure from the U.S. Students who cannot provide coverage from home will be required to purchase health insurance at SIUE.
Submit proof of immunizations required by Illinois State Law and SIUE
