St. Louis Metropolitan Research Exchange

The St. Louis Metropolitan Research Exchange (STLMRE) is an informal consortium of prominent urban scholars from universities and institutions across the St. Louis metropolitan area. The STLMRE brings together the many voices of urban studies in the region, encouraging collaboration and the sharing of scholarly information in an effort to urban policies with refined research, helping to build sustainable neighborhoods and cities. The STLMRE co-sponsored St. Louis Currents and participated in the Regional Neighborhoods Conference.

Applied Research Collaborative

The Applied Research Collaborative (ARC) is an innovative and powerful partnership of the applied research functions of SIUE (IUR), Saint Louis University (Region Wise) and the University of Missouri-St. Louis (Public Policy Research Center).

ARC exists to engage in greater collaboration on key issues facing the St. Louis Bi-State Region. ARC will lead to the ability to better consolidate information from an array of regional sources and become the resource for urban research and data for the area. This collaboration between area universities also offers the capacity to initiate data-based research and conduct evaluations for area organizations.

ARC's goal is to work with local governments and nonprofits to ensure community improvement efforts are well informed, thoughtfully planned and easy to implement. Research from the collaboration will help civic, nonprofit and public decision makers in a variety of ways, including local trend data presentation and analysis, program evaluation and documentation for specific community service needs.

The partnership allows the IUR to reach beyond SIUE's institutional capacity and jurisdictional boundaries. In theory, this multi-university team is powerful enough to accomplish major undertakings and provide contractual and pro-bono services to various clients in the bi-state region.

In 2009, the IUR worked through the ARC to secure a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant for brownfield reuse and green jobs in the City of East St. Louis.

Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan University

The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU) is an international affiliate organization of universities in large metropolitan areas that share common understandings of their institutional missions and values, as described in the Declaration of Metropolitan Universities. The Coalition ensures sustained attention to the exchange of information and ideas among member institutions about higher education’s role in urban and metropolitan settings, engenders a unified approach to the resolution of common challenges, and develops a clearer understanding within the higher education community and among public policy makers and the public about the distinctive roles played by urban and metropolitan institutions of higher education.
