Qualifying for financial aid:


In order to qualify for most financial aid, the following criteria must be met:

  1. Must have a social security number.
  2. Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  4. Must be registered for selective service, if appropriate.
  5. Must be admitted as a degree-seeking student.
  6. Be enrolled at least half-time each term (six hours - undergraduates | five hours - classified graduates).
  7. Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
  8. Cannot be in default on other student loans or owe a grant refund.

To receive financial assistance from the State of Illinois, documentation of Illinois residency must be provided. View or download the Illinois residency requirements for Illinois Student Assistance programs.

A stud ent who has lost eligibility for f in ancial aid bas ed on the possession or sale of a controlled substance may regain eligibility before the ab ove state d in elig ibility period if:

A. The student successfully completes a drug reh abilit ation program that;

1. Includes at le ast two un announced d rug tests;and

2. Has received or is qualified to r eceive funds dir ectly or indir ectly under a Fede ral, State, or local gover nment progr am;

a. Is adm iniste red or r ecogn ized by a Fed eral, State, or lo cal govern ment agency or court;

b. Has received or is qualified to r eceive p ayment dir ect ly or indir ectly from a Fede ral - or

State - l icen sed insurance company; or

c. Is administe red or r ecogn ized by a Fed eral - or St ate - licensed h ospital, health clin ic or med ical doctor.
