Position Title
Program Assistant

Hiring Unit
Kimmel Student Involvement Center

Job Description/Responsibilities
This position is responsible for interpreting policy and providing general advice, training, and guidance to organizations of the Kimmel Student Involvement Center.

Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:

Program Assistance for Student Organizations

  • Advising student organizations requesting funding through Student Government Finance Board
  • Maintaining program files for each event
  • Monitoring budget expenses and purchase supplies using P-card for each event
  • Completing post event budget analysis for each program

Campus Activities Board

  • Advising Special Events Committee
  • Helping to create annual goals and objectives for Campus Activities Board
  • Providing general advisement to members of Campus Activities Board and Attend CAB meetings

Coordinating SIUE Family Weekend, Cougar Welcome Block Party, Sibs & Kids Weekend and other large scale campus programs

  • Maintaining registration process for events
  • Creating marketing materials
  • Coordinating events and activities

Advising Student Government Finance Board

  • Meeting regularly with the chair
  • Training Finance Board members on budgeting and the funding manual
  • Attend Finance Board meetings

Coordinating and Assisting with various Diversity Programs

  • Serve on committees related to campus diversity programs and assisting in the coordination of programs such as “We Are One” programs, MLK Celebration and Black Heritage Month activities.

The Program Assistant may be assigned additional related duties and responsibilities in support of the department’s mission and goals.  Some evening and weekends duties will be required. 

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school graduation or equivalent
  2. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling three years (36 months),
    from the categories below:
    A) College course work in any field
         60 semester hours equals 1 year (12 months)
         90 semester hours equals 2 years (24 months)
         120 semester hours or more equals 3 years (36 months)
     B) Progressively more responsible work experience in supervising, organizing, 
         coordinating or other significant work with specific educational or
         administrative program initiatives. 

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, Psychology, or related field and those with experience in special events coordination, advertising, public relations, and communications
  • Progressively more responsible work experience in supervising, organizing, coordinating or other significant work with specific educational or administrative program initiatives
  • Experience working with Student Government, Campus Activities Boards, and developing student organization handbooks at the university level
  • Knowledge of all Microsoft Office products, experience with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or InDesign
  • Web design experience
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal), budgeting, decision-making, advising, counseling, listening, problem solving, and critical thinking skills 

Illinois residency required 


$2,629 per month
