Position Title
Plant Operating Engineer

Job Description/Responsibilities
This position operates and maintains all heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment. This position operates and maintains campus utilities such as gas, water, and power. The Plant Operating Engineer is also responsible for the operation of other building systems such as life safety, elevators, swimming pools, plumbing, and electrical. This position repairs pumps, air handlers, fans, and ductwork. This position may be assigned other related tasks in support of the department's mission and goals.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Possession of valid licenses and certificates as required by prevailing practice
2. Three years of experience working under the supervision of a Plant Operating Engineer and
successful completion of an apprenticeship program
OR
Five years of experience in the operation and maintenance of boilers, chillers, heating, ventilating
and air conditioning equipment (as a licensed Plant Operating Engineer if required by prevailing
practice)

Additional Skills and Knowledge Required
• A working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of boilers, centrifugal chillers, pumps and
compressors.
• The ability to read meters, check water levels and temperatures.
• The ability to operate various types of mechanical and electrical equipment.
• The ability to respond to fire alarms and troubleshoot fire alarm trouble calls.
• The ability to conduct chemical analysis of boiler water and make chemical additions based on the
analysis.

$35.55 per hour
