Job Description/Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision form a designated supervisor, the Second Cook/Special Projects performs general and/or baking duties.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing and cooking meats, poultry, fish, gravies, vegetables, cereals, soups, fruits and other forms of food. 
  • Preparing and cooking foods for special diets. 
  • Assisting in the preparations of salads and desserts. 
  • Preparing and/or baking cakes, pastries and hot breads as required.
  • Performing short-order cooking duties including preparing sandwiches, omelets, French fries and other foods to specifications/production sheets. 
  • Enacting programs to ensure food production and maintains quality and safety standards throughout the holding and delivery process.
  • Referring to daily production and coordinating with co-workers for necessary work to be done. 
  • Assisting in the preparation of food items for the following day.
  • Assisting in the supervision of subordinates as assigned, both Civil Service and students.
  • Completing daily records as required; maintaining inventory of items needed for next day. 
  • Maintaining adequate supplies to replenish food counters as required.

The Second Cook/Special Projects may be assigned other related tasks in support of the department’s mission and goals.

Minimum Qualifications
None

Additional Knowledge and Skills Desired by Department

  • Knowledge of quantity food preparation methods and terminology.
  • Knowledge of food values and nutrition.
  • Knowledge of an ability to use equipment and utensils used in food preparation.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematic computations.
  • Knowledge of sanitation practices and procedures. 
  • Ability to pass food handlers examination.
  • Previous food service experience.
  • Supervisory abilityCleanliness

$13.46 per hour
