Job Description/Responsibilities
This position prepares and manages the SDM Technical Services budget and is responsible for all financial record keeping.  This person is responsible for all secretarial and clerical support for the Technical Services Department, working independently much of the time.  In addition, s/he is responsible for ordering equipment, replacement parts, etc. for the Clinic, MDL (Multi-Disciplinary Lab), ESTL Clinic, Special Needs Clinic, Research, and all SDM buildings, out of their service contracts, and service calls from various accounts.  S/he will be responsible for prioritizing and dispatching personnel on work assignments, tracking the use and need handpiece inventory and send in handpieces for repair as necessary.  This position will be responsible for maintaining a schedule of events and coordinating personnel to see that the Technical Services technical staff has all details ready for such events.  This position works closely with other civil service personnel on the Alton and ESTL campuses.  The Office Support Specialist may be assigned additional related duties and responsibilities in support of the department’s mission and goals.

Minimum Qualifications
1. High school graduation or equivalent.
2. Twelve (12) months of clerical/office support work experience.
3. Any one or combination totaling twenty-four (24) months from the following
    categories:
    (a) work experience performing clerical/office support work
    (b) vocational training that provided a knowledge of generally accepted clerical
         procedures
    (c) college or university course work in Office Occupations, Business Administration,
         Business Education, or closely related fields 36 semester hours = twenty-four
         (24) months
    (d) college or university course work in any curriculum 60 semester hours =
         twenty-four (24) months  
4. Ability to keyboard accurately at a rate of 40 net w.p.m.                              

Additional Skills and Knowledge Preferred by Hiring Unit
This position requires a mature individual with multiple skills, able to function in diversified activities.  Necessary skills include office duties such as organizing/maintaining filing system, keeping accountable budgetary and inventory records, excellent grammar, spelling and composition skills.  S/he must be able to prioritize multiple duties, completing tasks while under pressure and with many distractions.  It is vital that this individual has the ability to work and communicates effectively with SDM faculty, staff, students, outside vendors; both in person and on the phone.  This position also requires a general knowledge of dental equipment and air driven devices.
