The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the leading voice for special and gifted education. Through the vision and dedication of more than 29,000 members, CEC sets the standard for high quality education for children and youth with exceptionalities.
Joining the SIUE student chapter of CEC provides professional development, resources, and peer-to-peer support to meet today’s new challenges in special education with confidence and make a difference for children and youth with disabilities.
Kappa Delta Pi
Kappa Delta Pi, an International Honor Society in Education, is dedicated to scholarship and excellence in education. Undergraduate and graduate students in SIUE's School of Education, Health and Human Behavior with a GPA of 3.25 or higher are invited to join. The Lambda Theta Chapter focuses on service to the education community and the teaching profession, volunteering time to such worthy endeavors as Ronald McDonald House, Children's Hope Center, and Children's Hospital. Each year the chapter hosts a Breakfast with Santa for children in the Edwardsville area and Literacy Alive activities in an adopted high-needs partnership school. Meetings, held once a month on Saturday mornings, include professional development activities related to education. National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing (NBASLH)
The National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing (NBASLH) is an organization whose mission is to maintain a viable mechanism through which the needs of black professionals, students and individuals with communication disorders can be met. NBASLH held its first formal meeting in December 1978 and continues today as a vibrant organization with strong membership throughout the country. National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA)
The Speech-Language Pathology program sponsors a chapter of The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA). NSSLHA is a national organization for students interested in the study of normal and disordered human communication behavior. The SIUE chapter of NSSLHA provides gathering opportunities for students who are interested in the study of communication disorders. PRIME (Promoting, Recruiting, Increasing Minority Educators)
Project PRIME is a University recognized student organization dedicated to increasing the number of minority students in the various fields of education at SIUE.
