Undergraduate Program: Senior Assignment: Poster Session
Intake meeting: At the beginning of each semester, your Senior Capstone in Psychology professor will review with you when your in-class Senior Assignment intake meeting will be. Please make every attempt to be in class that day. If you are absent, you will need to contact the SRA graduate assistants as soon as possible. Their contact information will be on your Senior Capstone syllabus.
Group work: Seniors may in groups of approximately four people on a presentation project.
Exclusive work: Work from other classes may not be used for Senior Assignment.
Presentation Deadline: The research presentation requires that students present their research in poster format. Student research presentations simulate professional conferences where psychologists and other human services professionals meet to present and discuss new ideas and research. Students must do this at a poster session sponsored by the SIUE Department of Psychology. The date of the poster session is posted in the Department of Psychology hallways and will be reviewed by your Senior Capstone professor. The poster session usually falls the second week before finals during the spring and fall semesters and the week before finals in the summer semester. Deadlines for other presentation venues differ. See details about other venues on the power option page.
Poster Session Sign-up and Attendance: YOU MUST SIGN UP WITH THE SENIOR ASSIGNMENT OFFICE during your in class intake meeting (or individually with the Senior Assignment advisors if you are absent from class that day) in order for us to reserve a space for you. Failure to sign-up will jeopardize your eligibility to participate. Attendance during the poster session is a required component of the senior assignment project.
Format of Posters: Posters must include abstract, introduction, methods, results and discussion sections. The Senior Assignment Office has handouts detailing the appropriate format. You can also look at this web site.
The Day Before Poster Session: You must have already reserved a space in the research hallway with the Senior Assignment Office. The day before poster day, you may find your assigned space and hang your poster. Your poster will be displayed until the next semester's poster day.
At The Poster Session: Authors of the poster are required to be present alongside their poster 15 minutes before the beginning of the scheduled session. The session lasts approximately one and one-half hours. This is an opportunity for professors and other attendees to ask you questions about your work. Attendance is mandatory. During this time, professors will evaluate individual projects.
Evaluation: Both content and writing style are evaluated. When your project has been accepted you will be sent a letter stating that your senior assignment requirement has been fulfilled. Please note, however, that in order to graduate, you must also pass your Senior Capstone in Psychology course.
