Are you Concerned about a Student, Faculty, and/or Staff Member?

If you know of a student, faculty, and/or staff member that may be at risk of harm, or who may intend to harm others, please feel free to use the Care Report to communicate your concern to the Dean of Students and the Behavioral Incident Counselor at the university. A copy of the report will be sent to each of these individuals to ensure a prompt and active discussion regarding the circumstances at hand. You may also request a copy of the report for your records by checking the box near the end of the report. We may contact you for more information or your assistance in the matter at a later date. Please do not be alarmed if you are not contacted by either of these individuals; the University is acting on your report as well as other sources of information in such a way that is appropriate to the concern.

For more detailed information regarding how to help students who are in distress as well as make referrals for professional help, please review the Helping Students in Distress Handout or the Helping Students in Distress Handbook.

Resources for Faculty and Staff Members

Employee Assistance Program

Counseling Services is not equipped to treat faculty and staff members with psychological distress; however, as an employee of SIUE, you have the opportunity to seek services outside of the university. The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides support and valuable information during difficult times for faculty and staff members at SIUE. EAP is a free, confidential, and voluntary program that can provide counseling and community mental health referrals to individuals in need, regardless of the chosen healthcare plan. Individuals may be referred to seek counseling services for the following concerns, including, but not limited to:

  • Anger Management
  • Stress & Anxiety
  • Family Conflicts
  • Domestic Violence
  • Sexual Assault
  • Financial Constraints
  • Grief/Loss
  • Depression
  • Alcohol and/or Substance Abuse
  • Issues with Elderly Care
  • Prenatal and/or Postnatal Concerns

Please visit the Employee Assistance Program website for more information.
