Curriculum Vita

Prior to joining the SIUE faculty, Dr. Sullivan was an economist at the U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington DC, and an instructor at the University of Maryland, the University of Maryland at Baltimore County, and Randolph-Macon Woman's College. He was also a research fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC.

Dr. Sullivan's areas of specialization include local economic development, business forecasting, and econometric and statistical methods. His research has appeared in Economic Development Quarterly, the International Review of Economic Education, The Southern Business & Economics Journal and The Public Interest. He has discussed his research in The Washington Post, The St. Louis Post Dispatch, The Wall Street Journal and on KMOX and WGBZ radio. He has been interviewed regarding such topics as welfare reform, immigration, union behavior, interracial marriage, sports economics and poverty by The St. Louis Business Journal, The Illinois Business Journal, The San Francisco Chronicle , The St. Louis Post Dispatch, The Harrisonburg Daily News, The Charleston Gazette, The Everett Herald and the Associated Press. His research has been discussed in Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, The Manhattan Institute's City Journal , The Detroit News, The Salt Lake Tribune and The Economist, on C-SPAN and NPR's The Dianne Rehm Show, by Washington Times columnist Mona Charen and by Stephan and Abigail Thernstrom, in their book, America In Black and White: One Nation Indivisible.

His current research interests include the effects of riverboat casinos on communities, the economic impact of public infrastructure projects and the Internet's role in the economy. He has done prior consulting work for numerous government entities and corporations. He has also co-authored several economic impact studies addressing, for example, the economic impact of sports facilities, public and private infrastructure and universities.
