Thank you for visiting us at our website…it is my personal pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Social Work, College of Arts and Sciences at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. We were excited to learn in August 2009 that the SIUE campus has been selected by the U.S. News and World Report as one of the seven "up and coming" schools in the Midwest. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics also says social work jobs are expected to increase by 22 percent through 2016.

The Social Work Department offers two professionally accredited programs that are required for licensure in social work in Illinois. The undergraduate BSW degree offers a wide variety of career choices in public, not-for-profit and private sector human services agencies in child welfare, health and medical care, elderly services, schools community development and even global sectors. We support a generalist practice perspective that trains social workers skilled in working with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities to help oppressed and underserved populations.

The Department also offers the Masters of Social Work degree, also fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education to provide a firm foundation for eventual licensure and certification. We are a small but growing department that offers students expert instruction from faculty whose research and publication interests closely coincide with their teaching areas. Our growing international faculty contributions also serve to strengthen opportunities for our graduate students globally.

Faculty represent a wide variety of experience in professional social work practice and they are active in attending local, regional, national and international association meetings. Faculty are dedicated to serving our students and are committed to teaching within a framework of high academic standards to make sure that we respond to the immediate and future needs of our clients in their diverse circumstances, at any point on the map with our rich and diverse specialties. .

Contact us by e-mail or call us at (618) 650-5758. If you are interested in joining us as an entering student, either as an undergraduate, transfer or graduate student, the SIUE admissions office can be reached at 1-800-447-SIUE.
