The Physics Observatory at SIUE will offer exciting new astronomical research opportunities for students and faculty and educational outreach programs for the community.

Access to information provided by the Physics Observatory strengthens the academic program, while offering a valuable research and learning tool for SIUE students. The new automated observatory is located near Prairie Hall on the SIUE campus. Seventy-nine percent of the project has been funded through the University and grants. Additional funding is needed to complete the observatory project, including instruments in the following ranges:

$500-$999
Security Cameras (3)

$1,000-$2,499
iMac Computers for student use in the lab (11)
RCOS Telescope Command Center
Instrument Rotator

$2,500-$4,999
Guider Scope
MacPro Server (2)
MacPro Desktop Computer with 27" flat screen for faculty programming
MacPro Server for off-site control and programming of student observation requests

An estimated $5,000 will be needed to support the operation of the Physics Observatory, which could be provided with an endowment of $125,000.
