Timeline of Events
- February 14, 2008 – Date of charter.
- March 31-April 2, 2008 – NACUBO’s 2008 National Smart & Sustainable Campus Conference at University of Maryland. Attendees were Bob Washburn, Dr. Susan Morgan, Nicole Brambaugh, and Kevin Adkins.
- April 2, 2008 – SIUE’s first Earth Day celebration.
- August 2008 – Ron Morlen began assistantship to conduct STARS audit.
- September 2008 – SAG funding was approved for the Rain Garden and the URA project. SIUE became a member of AASHE.
- October 2008 – Campus Sustainability Day.
- November 2008 – Ron Morlen and Kevin Adkins attended the AASHE conference in Raleigh, North Carolina.
- Spring 2008 - SIUE sent a team of faculty, staff, and students to NACUBO's Smart and Sustainable Campus Conference.
- April 2009 - All Faculty Meeting takes place. SAG and the VCA sponsored this luncheon on the subject of sustainability. A PowerPoint presentation was made highlighting SIUE’s efforts in sustainability and faculty brainstormed in discussion breakout sessions.
- May 2009 – Sustainability Officer Kevin Adkins begins assistantship.
- June 2009 – Kathleen Gardner, Associate Director for Residence Life, and Kyle Lineback, Residence Hall Director, gave a presentation on SIUE’s Students Improving Society (SIS) Learning Community at the ACPA Institute on Sustainability at Harvard University. Kevin Adkins also attended the institute.
- August 2009 – Water bottles distributed at convocation.
- September 2009 – Series of Curriculum Workshop began. Nathalie Woloszyn, Megan Buckley, and Dr. Connie Frey and Kevin Adkins attended Greening of the Campus conference at Ball State.
- October 2009 – Campus Sustainability Day. SAG approved bike share program.
- November 2009 – Dr. Chris Gordon (Construction Management), Shane Richardson (construction management student), Devin Gates (construction management student), and Kevin Adkins attended Greenbuild, the USGBC’s Annual International Conference.
- 2009-2010 - "Creating a Culture of Sustainability: Integrating Sustainability with Courses and Curricula" workshops were held for the faculty.
- April 2010 - For Earth Day (April 22nd) the Bike Share Program and this website were started.
- June 2010 - Dr. Connie Frey attended AASHE's Sustainability Across the Curriculum Leadership Workshop in San Diego.
- Fall 2010 - SIUE signed up for STARS assessment.
- Fall 2010 - Attended AASHE conference in Denver, Colorado.
- Spring 2011 - Earth Day celebration took place in April. The event allowed for students to learn about sustainability, volunteer, and listen to great music.
