About SUAA/SIUE Chapter

President’s Welcome

The SIUE Chapter of the State University Annuitants Association (SUAA/SIUE) strives to keep members informed of legislative initiatives, monitored by SUAA in Springfield, that threaten higher education, pension plans, health insurance and other promised   benefits.  We also seek to educate new to mid-career employees as well as soon-to-be and new retirees about the many agencies they can expect to encounter and the many choices they will need to consider as they plan their journey and transition into retirement

We encourage you to become a member of SUAA.  It is through our combined efforts and a unified front that SUAA can remain a powerful voice in Springfield, standing up for the preservation and protection of YOUR benefits -- protecting your tomorrows today. Join SUAA/SIUE today!

Meetings and Events

The SUAA/SIUE Chapter hosts two annual chapter meetings open to all SIUE employees, retirees, and surviving spouses: one in December which precedes the annual  Chancellor’s Holiday Party; the other in June which precedes the annual Retirees Reception.  These meetings typically include speakers discussing legislative issues affecting higher education, current employees, and your current or future retirement benefits, including health insurance updates.

In addition to the annual chapter meetings, the board is committed to delivering  informational meetings on topics such as how SURS employment impacts Social Security, planning for a secure financial future, TRAIL (the State managed Medicare health insurance package), and more. The board is always interested in suggested topics of interest to all current SIUE employees as well as SUAA members.  Use the Contact Us  form on this page to submit your recommendation(s).

Meetings are announced on this web site, via email notices to current SUAA/SIUE members, and through current employee and retirees listservs for the eToday.

Volunteer Opportunities

Become active in the SUAA/SIUE chapter.  Volunteer for one or more of the following current openings.

  • Legislative Affairs Committee — This committee, chaired by John Jennetten, consists of employees and retirees working to support the interests of employees, retirees and survivors related to proposed legislation affecting our benefits. Establishing relationships with area state legislators and supporting the legislative platform of SUAA will be ongoing activities. Letter writing, phone calls and visits to local legislators are possible committee activities.
  • Membership Committee — Chaired by Jo Gibson, this group needs enthusiastic current employees and retirees to actively engage in networking on campus and through other communications to foster awareness of the benefits of SUAA members. This group is always looking for volunteers to help with individual projects.
  • Social/Events Committee — This proposed new committee will plan social events for our members. Several members have expressed a desire to have periodic social events for retirees, survivors and current employee members.

Please email John Jennetten if you are interested in becoming involved in the work of our SIUE/ SUAA Chapter.
