Université Laval - Exchange Program for French Language Study


Located in the heart of Quebec's historical capital city, Universite Laval is one of Canada's leading universities.  Through an agreement with Universite Laval, qualified SIUE undergraduate students may be nominated for a semester long of 5 week summer exchange placement at Laval.  This program is suitable for French language majors with advanced level French language skills (to take courses from the regular curriculum) or for French minors or majors with beginning to advanced level French language skills to take intensive French as a foreign language courses at the Ecole de langues de I'Universite Laval-L'ELUL (School of Languages).

L'ELUL, which finds its origins in the summer French language courses created by Universite Laval in 1938, is a fertile environment for the expression of multiculturalism in Quebec.  The gate of entry for non-French-speaking students at Universite Laval, and an important place for students who want to broaden their horizons, I'EULU brings students together in its midst a considerable group of practitioners from diverse languages and cultures. 

Tuition:

Students accepted to participate in this exchange program will pay SIUE tuition for courses taken at Laval.  Tuition for the corresponding number of SIUE credit hours to be earned for courses taken at Laval will be charged to the student's SIUE bursar bill.  Tuition will be waived by Laval for SIUE students. Laval pedagogical fees will be charged. Additional costs include housing and  Laval's required health insurance plan.

Semester Courses:

Intensive French as a Foreign Language Program offers a semester long 15 week program of 16 to 18 credit hours. Elementary to advanced level courses are available.

Summer programs:

Two five week intensive summer sessions are offered (Early May-early June and early July-early August).

1. SIUE Study Abroad Application Form

2. Statement of purpose essay

3. Official SIUE transcript

4. At least 1 letter of recommendation supporting your application for participation in this exchange program from an SIUE French professor

5. SIUE study Abroad Course Proposal/Approval Form

6. Proof of Citizenship (copy of passport or birth certificate)

7. Laval University Student Exchange Application Form
