In addition to semester long study abroad programs, SIUE students have the opportunity to experience international education through a variety of short term programs led by SIUE faculty. The nature of faculty led short term programs varies widely depending on the discipline and destination. Faculty led programs also vary in duration, generally lasting from 1 - 6 weeks, with most programs offered in summer term or during break periods.

Anticipated Dates: May 9 - 31, 2012
Courses: HIST 300 and/or HIST 41O. These are individual or paired courses for a total of 3 or 6 credit hours. HIST 410 is an independent study project that will need to be arranged with Professor Frick prior to departure. This program will personally engage students in the extraordinary history of Italy by traveling to Florence and studying at the facilities of the Santa Reparata Institute (SRISA) wile also visiting other Italian cities and historical sites.
Program Fee: $4040 - Includes round-trip airfare from St. Louis to Florence, 3 weeks student apartment in Florence, museum card, and excursions to Siena, San Gimigniano, Pisa and Cinque Terre. See program flyer for more information.
Additional Costs to consider: 3 - 6 hours SIUE tuition billed on SIUE bursar bill, meals and incidental expenses, optional excursion to Rome ($350)

Culture and Business in Brazil
Anticipated Dates: May 9 - 20, 2012
Courses: One of the following: GBA 489/MBA 595/MBA 532 (3 credit hours)
This course will provide students with first-hand business experience. The primary purpose of the courses is to develop students' understanding of the effects of history, culture, politics, and the economy on business practice by comparing U.S. practices with business practices in Brazil. The course will be taught by SIUE instructors and will include guest speakers, visits to Brazilian and American businesses, governmental agencies, intro to Brazilian culture, classroom lectures, informal discussions, and student presentations. Meeting times in São Paulo will be flexible, but students should expect some early starts and some late endings. Free time at the end of the day or at lunchtime may be used for exploring the city. Upon completion of this course, students will have a better understanding of the role culture and political institutions play in shaping the Brazilian business environment, as well as both the challenges and opportunities faced by domestic and international firms working in Brazil.

International Public Relations in France and Romania

This upper level, hands-on course provides public relations students with an opportunity to experience and understand ho public relations is conceived and practiced in various settings of the globe. The group will travel to a Western European country (France) and an Eastern European country (Romania) to gain hands-on experience in international public relations.

Health Education Internship/ Service Learning in GHANA
Anticipated Dates: 6 week program from June - August 2012
Courses: HED 499 (9 credits) - for Health Education majors
or HED 462 International Service Learning (6 credit hours) - for non-Health Education majors
Program Fee: $3,465 - Includes roundtrip airfare to Accra, Ghana, entry visa fee for Ghana, residence hall housing in double rooms at the University of Ghana, local transportation, field trips and cultural activities. Additional costs to consider: SIUE tuition billed on summer 2012 bursar bill and spending money for meals and incidentals.
Program Description: This international internship / service learning program is aimed at providing health education students with a unique field experience. It will provide students with opportunities for academic, social, cultural and personal enrichment as student learn about health issues in a developing society. Students will work with non-profit and government organizations that provide health related services. They will assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of health programs. Students will also have the opportunity to experience the Ghanaian culture and investigate the social and cultural factors that impact health education, promotion, prevention and care in a developing society such as Ghana.

Seville, Spain - Spanish Language and Culture
Dates: May 25 - June 24, 2012
SIUE has partnered with CEA to offer students this unique opportunity in Seville, Spain.
Costs: CEA Program fee of $3,150 includes airport pick-up in Seville, onsite orientation and welcome reception, homestay housing including 3 meals per day, course in Andalusian Culture at the CEA Global Campus, and various cultural activities. Additional costs to consider: Roundtrip airfare to Seville, Spain, 3 hours SIUE tuition (billed on SIUE bursar bill) $75 SIUE study abroad fee, personal spending and incidentals.
Courses: Students selected to participate in this program will earn 6 credits advanced level SIUE Spanish credit : 1 course in Andalusian Literature (taught by Dr. Joaquin Florido-Berrocal and 2nd course in Andalusian Literature (taught at CEA Global Campus). This program is for advanced level students who have completed at least through SPAN 202 prior to program start date.
