Salzburg College - Summer 4 week program in European Studies

The Summer Session at Salzburg College offers an introduction to various aspects of the Austrian and European culture. Most courses emphasize the special opportunities provided by the Salzburg setting. Field experience including visits to historical sites, to cultural and professional institutions and the attendance of musical events constitute an important part of the program.
Courses
German language studies at Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced levels (3 hrs)
Understanding Austria: History, Politics and Culture (3 hrs) From the Habsburg empire to the modern state.
Austrian Literature and Culture (3 hrs): An examination of 20th century Austrian literature against the background of the country's history, politics and culture.
The European Union (3 hrs): An introduction to the process and institutions of European political and economic integration.
The Mozart Project (3 hrs): (For music majors.) Personal study project combining research and performance.
Music History (3 hrs): An introduction to the musical heritage of Europe from the Classical Period to the 20th Century.
Music Performance (3 hrs): Private instruction for music majors - practice facilities are provided. Additional fee $470
Students are expected to enroll for two courses, for a total of 6 semester credit hours. Salzburg College reserves the right to cancel a course if less than 5 students enroll.
A four-day trip to Vienna (included in program fee), Austria's historical capital, will provide a broad range of experiences related to history, art, music, and modern life. In addition, a variety of local field trips constitute an integrated part of the academic program. There is also some time for independent travel on weekends.
To maximize the cultural involvement, students live in Austrian families where they also take their breakfasts and dinners. Family accommodations are normally reserved for students up to the age of 26. Other accommodations can be made available at request. Weekday lunches are served at the Salzburg College Study Center.
COST: $4,750 - Includes tuition, full room and board, local excursions and social events, 4-day trip to Vienna (only breakfast included for Vienna trip).

Heidelberg College Summer Program -
German Language & German Studies in the heart of Europe: Heidelberg, Germany
Dates: MAY 22 - JULY 3, 2009
Summer 2009 program fee: $4950 - includes tuition (6 - 8 credits), housing, breakfast & dinner, passes for public transportation in and around Heidelberg, 4 day Berlin study trip, several 1 day excursions and cultural events, a GermanRail pass.
Eligibility: Participants must have completed at least 1 year of college level German and have cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. .

DON QUIJOTE
Spanish Language Courses in Spain and Latin America. Don Quijote Spanish Language schools offer intensive Spanish language class at all levels. Don Quijote destinations include Barcelona, Granada, Madrid, Salamanca, Seville, Tenerife, Valencia and Malaga in Spain, Guanajuato Mexico and Cusco Peru. Most sites offer choice of accommodations in homestay with a family, student residence, or student flat. To earn SIUE Spanish credit for study at a Don Quijote School, contact the Study Abroad Coordinator to schedule an appointment.

Housing options include homestay with a Mexican family or the Student Inn Program (apartment style living on a family's property). Housing costs and $100 fee are paid directly to the host institution during orientation. An friendly and highly skilled staff in the Office of International Affairs at Monterrey Tech Cuernavaca provides airport pick-up, an orientation program, planned optional excursions to other parts of Mexico, and ongoing assistance to international students. Summer Program Dates: Late May - early July (6 weeks) .
