The UdL is made up of seven faculties or schools (Faculty of Law and Economics, Higher Technical School of Agrarian Engineering (ETSEA), Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Educational Sciences, Higher Polytechnic School (EPS), Faculty of Medicine, University School of Nursing) and four affiliated centres: National Physical Education Institute of Catalonia (INEFC), University School of Industrial Relations, University School of Tourism “Terres de Lleida”, and the University School of Tourism in Manresa. The University of Lleida has several campuses, situated in different areas of the town. Each campus is meant to create a pleasant academic atmosphere, which fosters study, research and debate.
SIUE students participating in the Lleida program have access to university facilities and services alongside Spanish and other International Students. The University of Lleida receives every year approximately 200 International Students from all over the world: Europe, South America, Asia, and the U.S.

The city of Lleida, with 120,000 inhabitants, is the most important demographic, economic and cultural centre in inland Catalonia. The town, which may appear on some maps with the Spanish spelling “Lérida”, enjoys a privileged strategic situation. It is only two hours’ drive to the Pyrenees ski resorts and to France and an hour to the Mediterranean beaches. Lleida is located in the center of a rich agricultural region, on the banks of the river Segre. It is a city with plenty of services, with an extensive trading tradition and one of the highest incomes per capita in Spain. Lleida is situated 155 kilometers west of Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia. Catalonia, one of the 17 autonomous regions in Spain which compose the Spanish State, is a modern and diverse country, with a strong personality, characterized by its own rich history, culture, language and traditions. The city has a continental climate, with cold and dry winters and very hot summers. Temperature often ranges from below 32° F in winter to over 95º F in summer.
Further information about Lleida and Catalonia is available at the International Relations Office website: http://www.udl.es/perfils/visitors.html
There are several housing possibilities for students in Lleida:
• University Apartments: http://www.residenciascampus.com/
• Private Residences
• Shared Flats
The most economically convenient option (and what both regular and international students most often choose) is sharing a flat. Rent ranges from 100€ (Euros) to 160€ (Euros) per student per month. Available flats can be found on the following web pages: http://www.udl.es/serveis/seu/allotjament/erasmus or http://estudiantat.udl.es/sau.htm.
The International Office at the University of Lleida can provide e-mail addresses from international students who are leaving after fall semester to students arriving in spring semester, so that they can rent the room the student is leaving.
SIUE students accepted and approved for participation in the Lleida exchange program will be registered in and pay SIUE tuition for the pre-approved SIUE course equivalencies for the courses undertaken at Lleida. By virtue of the exchange agreement signed between Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and the University of Lleida, tuition and academic fees are waived for SIUE students. Students are responsible for: airfare, local transportation, books, passport, visa fees, personal expenses and transportation from Barcelona Airport to Lleida. Students should plan for extra expenses, such as weekend travel, personal spending money, etc.
