How to Battle Senioritis
Posted April 4, 2018
The countdown for graduation is on. (I see you May 5.) It’s all winding down. Except now you’re not only focusing on managing your course load, but your professional career, as well. This time of the year can be stressful, and I know this might sound weird, but enjoy it. Here are a few tips to battle senioritis and make your last few weeks in college the best yet.
Stay involved
Your senior year can be the busiest year of all. Stay involved on campus and the activities it has to offer. It is the last time to take opportunities, create memories and experience what it means to be a SIUE Cougar. If you are looking for a resource, visit the Kimmel Student Involvement Center.
Take care of yourself
It can become overwhelming and stressful when trying to balance your future plans and finishing your projects. Make sure to get plenty of rest and eat well. I know, something your mother would say, but a healthy body leads to a healthy mind. Check out SIUE Campus Recreation for some pointers.
Avoid procrastination
As easy as it can be to put off your school work...don't! Even though you see the light at the end of the tunnel, keep moving forward and get ahead. You will thank yourself later when you see your grades improve, and you have a better state of mind when you finish. Do not give into completing your senior year with anything less than your best.
Stay organized
It is easy to get jumbled up with all the responsibilities that have been put onto your plate. Keep a calendar filled with due dates, events and personal deadlines. This will help you remember when each task needs to be done and will help you feel less overwhelmed.
Stay positive
It is your senior year. Stay positive in the process. This is what you have worked for during your journey at SIUE. You can do it!
Make the most of your time
Enjoy the late-night study sessions with your roommates. Enjoy running around campus bouncing from class to class. Make the best of every educational opportunity that comes your way. There will never be a time in your life that is quite like this.
Senior year is what we look forward to. Overthinking what your life will look like outside of college will only add unwanted stress. Enjoy your final days in college. When it seems like everything is becoming too much, just remember—you got this!
