Project GAME stands for Goal-Oriented African American Males Excel. Project GAME is a two-semester program in which 30 African-American males are selected to participate. Each participant is an incoming freshman who is selected based on high school grade point average (GPA), ACT score, leadership potential, volunteer experience, and potential for success in higher education.
The participants of Project GAME attend class, study, and participate in extracurricular activities together.
The structure of Project GAME offers each participant a chance to develop skills for college success in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment. Students are challenged to enhance their academic skills through classes in study skills development. Additionally, students are encouraged, via field trips and classroom instruction, to participate in programs that promote cultural awareness, history, social development, spiritual enlightenment, and intensify positive self-esteem.
Periodically, guest speakers visit Project GAME students to talk about real-life issues, strategies for success, and personal development. Caring mentors are provided to guide and advise each student as he encounters the university experience and ultimately earns a Bachelor's Degree.
