University Police at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is a law enforcement agency responsible for the protection of life and property. Officers are sworn police personnel under the authority granted by Illinois law and have the authority to make arrests.
Law enforcement services are provided to the Edwardsville Campus, the Alton Campus, and the East St. Louis Higher Education Center. The SIUE Police Department has two locations to better serve the University community. The primary department is located on the Edwardsville Campus and is responsible for all administrative functions of the SIUE Police Department. The satellite department is located at the East St. Louis Higher Education Center. Both locations provide police services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The Edwardsville Campus Police responds to all emergency and non-emergency calls at the Edwardsville Campus and the Alton Campus. At the Alton Campus, when response time is crucial, the Alton Police Department is notified to respond to the situation until the SIUE Police Department can arrive on scene. The SIUE Police located at the satellite station at the East St. Louis Higher Education Center in East St. Louis will respond to any emergency or non-emergency calls at that location. The Springfield SIU School of Medicine Security Department responds to any non-emergency calls at the Springfield SIU School of Medicine location and will notify the Springfield Police Department of any incidents involving criminal activity or in the event that police presence is required.

The University Police Department cooperates with, provides assistance to, and receives assistance from Illinois State Police, county police, and municipal police departments. Similar cooperation and assistance also occur with federal law enforcement agencies. The SIUE Police Department also has written memorandum of understandings with the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS) and the Metro East Auto Task Force (MEAT).
