The University Police Department maintains a Daily Crime Log (Media Log) that depicts all crimes reported to the department, except when disclosure of such information is prohibited by law or such disclosure would jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim (i.e., information may be temporarily withheld if release of such information would: (a) jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation or the safety of an individual; (b) cause a suspect to flee or evade detection; or (c) result in the destruction of evidence). Standard notations on the log include the nature, date, time and general location of each crime, and the disposition of the complaint, if known.
The Daily Crime Log (Media Log) is sent to University News Services for the purpose of briefing the community about crimes, arrests, and police services which occurred on campus within the previous 24 hour period. Logs are available for review at the University Police Department, 99 Supporting Services Road on the Edwardsville Campus, and at Business Affairs, Building 273, Room 1103 at the Alton Campus. The Log is also made available daily for viewing on the Police web site at: http://www.siue.edu/police; click on the Daily Media Log link under the General Information tab. (The Daily Crime Log will be updated on the next business day following a weekend, holiday, or any other day/days the University is closed).
In the event that a situation arises either on or off campus that, in the judgment of the Chief of University Police, constitutes an ongoing or continuing threat, a “timely warning” will be issued. The warning will be disseminated to the campus community in the form of a bulletin or an alert that is issued under the authority of the Vice Chancellor for Administration and distributed campus-wide. Such warnings will be issued via e-mail to students, faculty, and staff. Depending on the particular circumstances of the crime, the warning may also be sent by e-alert or posted on campus and in housing facilities.
