The WoRKS Group Edwardsville was sponsored by a grant from the Metanexus Institute, a global interdisciplinary think tank involving 240 active groups in 42 countries. Metanexus promotes the constructive engagement of science, religion and the humanities in the communal pursuit of wisdom in order to address humanity’s most profound questions and challenges. www.metanexus.net
The acronym WoRKS represents:
• Action that serves a purpose.
• Products of thought, e.g., texts, works of architecture
• Functionality: Ideas and practices that work.
• Good works: Projects that support the good for humanity and the environment.
Topics addressed in past sessions include theories of supernatural causation, scientific studies of prayer in hospitals, and comparison of means of knowing in the domains science and spirituality.
WoRKS is a member of the Metanexus Global Network (MGN), an interdisciplinary, inter-institutional, international network consisting of scholars, researchers, teachers, representatives of faith communities, and engaged citizens. http://www.metanexus.net/globalnetwork/
