Catholic Campus Minister - Fr. Paul Kala
Being the new face at the Catholic Campus Ministry office here at SIUE undoubtedly leaves the question on the minds of many people; who is he? Well, I am no one other than Fr. Paul Kala, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Springfield in Illinois. I was ordained in May 2010 in Springfield by Cardinal Francis George of Chicago.
I am originally from Ghana in the west coast of Africa and moved to the United States a few years ago. I have two brothers, Francis and John and no sisters and for that reason, I now have over a thousand sisters the last time I counted. As you may know, the word cousin does not exist in many African languages; they are all your sisters and brothers.
Prior to my ordination to the priesthood I received my graduate education from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, IL. In 2005 and 2006 I received my M.A and M.Div respectively. I also received a post graduate certificate in Theology from the University of St. Mary of Lake. Prior to my arrival at SIUE I served at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Highland as the Parochial Vicar. I am looking forward with eagerness to this great adventure of Campus ministry. God bless you.
