Curriculum Structure in Banner

SOILCUR contains all curriculum data for a student for every module: Recruiting, Admissions, Learner, and Outcome. Most often you will access the curriculum tab on SGASTDN to display only Learner curriculum data. If registration has already begun for a term in which you wish to update curriculum, you will access SFAREGS.

On either SGASTDN or SFAREGS, there are two blocks of data. The Curriculum block is comprised of the Program, Catalog Term, Campus, Priority, and Activity. The Field of Study block is comprised of Priority, Catalog, Type (Major, Concentration, Minor), and Status.

A Program is the umbrella under which all detailed curriculum information falls. The program is defined on SMAPRLE and is built using the following convention: Degree_Level_College.

Example: Bachelor of Science in Biology = BS_UG_AS

Majors and concentrations are assigned to the appropriate programs on the SOACURR form.

In Banner, there are separate major codes for specializations. The specializations are stored as concentrations and are built to associate only with the correct major.

Changing a Major during a Current, Non-Registered Term

When updating a major on SGASTDN, you must first insert an entirely new SGASTDN record for the effective term of major change if one does not already exist.

Access SGASTDN; enter Banner ID and effective term of the change in the keyblock and perform Next Block.

Review the term displayed in the New Term field

  • If the term displayed in the New Term field does not match the term in the keyblock:

    • click on Record and choose Duplicate; this will copy the data from the most recent SGASTDN record and paste it to a new one.

    • Enter the new effective term in the New Term field; this term should match the one you entered in the keyblock.
