• Serve as Acting Provost in the absence of the Provost.
• Manage strategic academic planning, program and budget development activities in accord with the academic deans and other administrative units including the UPBC, SIU President's Office and the Board of Trustees; lead the Budget Working Group within the Office of the Provost (including the Director of Business Affairs and the Assistant to the Provost for Human Resources).
• Supervise the personnel, budget, and programs of the Academic Success Center (including Academic Advising, Instructional Services, SOAR, Honors Program, Johnetta Haley Academy, and the President's/Chancellor's Scholars) and serve as liaison with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs to promote effective student retention strategies.
• Supervise the Director of the Office of Educational Outreach including continuing education programs, Summer School, and other campus outreach activities.
• Coordinate Provost Office Review of Curriculum with the Assistant Provost for Faculty Development and Diversity.

• Supervise the pre and post awards management of grants and contracts.
• Work with academic leadership to ensure appropriate university-wide policies and procedures for the conduct of research at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels.
• Facilitate communications with external funding agencies regarding appropriate policies and procedures as well as negotiation of indirect cost rates.
• Coordinate state and federal appropriations requests.
• Lead strategic planning related to interdisciplinary approaches to university research, new funding opportunities and economic development partnerships.
• Supervise University-wide research centers and institutes including the National Corn to Ethanol Research Center, Illinois Education Research Council, and the Institute for Urban Research.

Chief Academic Officer for Graduate Programs

• Working with the Graduate Council and the academic leadership, supervise the development, implementation, and assessment of all graduate programs.
• Lead strategic planning related to recruitment, retention and graduation of graduate students.
• Working with the Academic Deans, coordinate the graduate assistantship program.
• Lead efforts to improve the overall educational standards and quality
• Working with the academic deans in making appointments to the graduate faculty and, as appropriate, making recommendations on tenure and promotion of members of the graduate faculty.

• Responsible for development, implementation, and management of a University-wide Faculty Diversity Program including elements of cultural and social diversity, civility, ethics, and collective responsibility.
• In coordination with academic units, responsible for a Faculty Recruitment and Retention Program including specific diversity initiatives to recruit and retain underrepresented groups.
• Responsible for Faculty Development Programs including New Faculty Orientation, Tenure/Promotion Workshops, Sabbatical Program, and support of the Provost's evaluation of Mid-Tenure Review, Tenure, and Promotion.
• Supervises the Excellence in Teaching and Learning Initiative to provide continuing faculty development opportunities.
• Responsible for Provost's Office curriculum review with the Associate Provost for Academic Planning and Program Development including new course applications and course revisions; serve as Provost's liaison to the Faculty Senate Curriculum Committee.
• Serve as the Provost's liaison to the Faculty Senate Committees on Faculty Development and Faculty Welfare.

• Leads Information Technology Services that provides information technology initiatives, administration, and services across campus. 
• Responsible for information integrity and security; academic computing; administrative application development, implementation and support; user support; telecommunications and network support; instructional and classroom technology; and multimedia development.
• Develops, leads, and coordinates the planning process for IT; communicates about IT with all stakeholders; collaborates with University offices, coordinates with the SIU System Office and outside agencies; represents SIUE at state and national levels.
• Manages the human, capital, and budgetary resources necessary to deliver excellent information technology services in support of the academic enterprise.

Responsible for planning process for the Office of Enrollment Management.

• Develops and recommends overall enrollment goals for the University.
• Monitors student enrollment relative to established goals.
• Develops and coordinates plans for student recruitment.
• Develops and executes plans for increasing student retention.
• Develops new student transition programs.

• Career Development Center

Responsible for Commencement Ceremonies, Honors Convocation, Orientation and New Freshman Convocation.

• Responsible for the oversight and management of the University-wide academic assessment program through collaborative efforts with the Faculty Senate, academic deans, and academic units.
• Responsible for the oversight and management of the University-wide Senior Assignment Program through collaboration with the academic units.
• Responsible for the conduct of regularly scheduled undergraduate and graduate Academic Program Reviews in collaboration with the Faculty Senate, Associate Provost for Research/Graduate Dean, and the academic units.
• Responsible for the management of the Undergraduate Research Academy in collaboration with the Associate Provost for Research/Graduate Dean and academic units.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for university and academic unit accreditation compliance and for coordination of program accreditation reviews with the Provost's Office and academic units.  Serve as the primary point of contact for the University AQIP process coordinating effort and communication between the Provost's Office, academic units, Faculty Senate, and the Higher Learning Commission.

• Serve as the Senior Advisor to the Provost and a member of the Provost's Senior Staff in promoting the values and programs consistent with a 21st Century liberal education at SIUE.
• Serve as the primary liaison with the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) LEAP Campaign dedicated to "empowering students with broad knowledge and transferable skills, and that cultivate social responsibility and a strong sense of ethics and values."
• Participate in strategic national conferences as well as publish peer-reviewed publications on SIUE's progress in providing liberal education.
• Develop vibrant and robust interdisciplinary programs at SIUE to serve as learning models of liberal education including regular (one class/semester) teaching assignments.
• facilitate General Education reform at SIUE through the implementation phase of the BRIDGE process.

Policies

• Coordinates policy review and develops current and future academic policies/guidelines
• Maintains the official University Policy Manual
• Serves as the Provost's liaison to the Office of the General Counsel for coordination of policies (including intellectual property, technology transfer and copyright, academic use of technology)

Communication

• Coordinates responses to faculty and student grievances
• Coordinates external communication and document preparation in response to requests from external agencies.  In consultation with the Provost and Associate/Assistant Provosts, prepares documents and reports, such as the Annual Performance Reports, Illinois State Legislative Reports, and Accreditation Reports
• Coordinates communication strategies and projects within Academic Affairs with the Office of Marketing and Communications.

• Manages and prepares the Academic Affairs planning budget
• Oversees the daily operations of the Academic Affairs operating budget including mid-year re-appraisal and the end of year close-out process
• Provides fiscal guidance to the Provost, Deans, Directors and their respective business managers regarding SIUE, SIU and Illinois educational fiscal policies, actions and trends

• Plans, formulates, constructs, and oversees the yearly instructional salaries budgets including year-round monitoring of student credit hour production, course offerings, normative values, etc.
• Participates in yearly salary increase process by analyzing unit submissions for faculty populations and responsible for ensuring policy compliance
• Provides training and instruction to Deans, Directors, Chairs, FOs, and staff regarding human resources, personnel, payroll matters and practices/policy matters
• Works with Business Affairs to maintain the Provost's Budget Management System
• Serves as the Provost's liaison on University committees related to human resource issues and policies
• Represents Academic Affairs in matters of labor relations and negotiations
