HLC Continues Accreditation for SIUE

March 24, 2015

The North Central Association’s (NCA) Higher Learning Commission (HLC) has notified Southern Illinois University Edwardsville of its continued accreditation. SIUE is scheduled for its next reaffirmation review in 2022-2023 and will continue its accreditation relationship with the Higher Learning Commission.

The final decision by the Institutional Actions Council was made March 9 and was officially delivered to SIUE Chancellor Julie Furst-Bowe on March 16.
In all previous reviews, SIUE met all of the criteria for accreditation and federal compliance standards required. SIUE has been a long-time participant in the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) pathway. The HLC has been conducting Quality Checkup peer-review visits to institutions during the fifth or sixth year in every seven-year cycle of AQIP participation.

Along with this reaffirmation, SIUE had the opportunity to declare a new pathway for accreditation through HLC. SIUE has elected to move to the Open Pathway. In the Open Pathway, SIUE’s reporting and quality improvement initiatives will change, and the University will move into a 10-year accreditation cycle with an Assurance Review or comprehensive evaluation in year four.

Associate Provost Denise Cobb is responsible for overseeing the University’s accreditation and quality assurance processes.
