Student Life

Information about Focus Interest Community (FIC) and other options

SIUE offers incoming freshman Honors students the opportunity to live with other Honors students in a Focused Interest Community (FIC). This Honor's Focused Interest Community allows students to live with other Honors students on the Honors Wing in one of SIUE’s residence halls, surrounding themselves with some of the most intelligent, enthusiastic, and intellectually diverse students that SIUE has to offer. Whether in the classroom or student lounge, residents of the Honor’s FIC are sure to find themselves surrounded by friendly, intellectually-stimulating company.

Research Opportunities and URCA

The Honors Program at SIUE understands the importance of undergraduate research and encourages Honors students to begin participating as early as possible. Through the close relationships that Honors students quickly build with faculty, and through programs like SIUE’s Undergraduate Research Academy (URCA), Honors students have a host of options available through which to conduct and present undergraduate research. Find out more information by clicking here to visit the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities webpage.

Study Abroad

Undergraduate education should be a time for exposure to new ideas, places, and experiences, and no experience is quite as powerful as studying abroad. In conjunction with SIUE’s Office of International Affairs, Honors students have the opportunity to choose from over 200 different programs in 20 different countries for international experiences and study. Most students find their sophomore or junior year the ideal time for this experience, so find out more information and begin planning early by visiting  SIUE’s Office of International Affairs webpage
