Following are descriptions of the various fees listed in the SIUE tuition and fees charts.
Accommodates operating expenditures for all intercollegiate athletic programs, allowing all students to attend athletic programs free.
This fee funds the operational and program expenditures for the Student Fitness Center, which includes the University Wellness Program and facilities. The facilities include a walking track, cardio and weight room, aerobics, and courts for volleyball and basketball.
This fee provides small awards for needy students; the fee funds are matched by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC). This fee is mandatory but is subject to refund upon a student’s request at the Bursar’s Office within the first two weeks of the semester.
Funds the operational expenditures of Textbook Service. This enables undergraduate students to rent texts.
Funds the operational expenditures of the University Center and supports student programming through the University Center Board.
Paid by housing residents to support services for resident students, including programming expenditures, movies, building and wing allowances, mentoring programs, and special projects.
The units/services funded by the Student Welfare and Activity Fee are:
Campus Recreation Sub-Fee
Funds the operational and program expenditures of Campus Recreation, which includes intramural sports component, outdoor travel opportunities, and the Cougar Lake pool.
Student Activities and Organizations Sub-Fee
Provides a funding source for registered student organizations at SIUE for office maintenance, non-programmatic organizational, and organizational publications expenses; inter-organizational orientation workshops; a student travel account; and special requests.
Student Government Sub-Fee
Funds the organizational and service costs of the Student Senate, its officers, and the Student Body President.
Student Legal Services Sub-Fee
Funds the operation of the Student Legal Services Program at the University. This program was established to provide free legal assistance for currently enrolled SIUE students and to develop educational programs that allow students to gain a better understanding of the legal process and the law and to sponsor educational law programs.
Student Medical Benefit Sub-Fee
Funds the operational and program expenditures of Health Service. Health Service provides acute clinical care, sexuality awareness, laboratory services, immunization clinic, pharmacy services, and health education services.
Student Programming Sub-Fee
Established all-University events (i.e., Welcome Week, Homecoming, Springfest, Black History Month, and the Pow Wow) and a special programming contingency account administered by the Student Senate. Such programs include films, speakers, bands, dances, and cultural programs. The cost of such programs includes technical costs, production fees, advertising and promotion costs, and professional fees and charges.
Student Publications Sub-Fee
Funds printing and other publication costs of the student newspaper, The Alestle, as well as replacement of equipment for The Alestle.
Established to cover the ever-increasing costs of maintaining and improving the information technology network infrastructure, which provides Internet access and e-mail service, and other services.
To cover the costs of the design services on a planned Student Academic Success Center addition to Morris University Center. The SASC will provide students with one central location to have their academic support and personal needs addressed. Many critical support services that are located across campus will be relocated in one central location in the core of the campus convenient to many other complementary services.
