Transferring credit to SIUE is no mystery. Most courses you take at an accredited institution will be accepted for credit at SIUE. As long as the course is appropriate to baccalaureate education and a grade of D or better is earned, you will receive credit for the course*.
Courses that will not normally transfer are those with grades below a D, career-oriented technical courses (physical therapy assistant, automotive technology, heating and cooling, etc.), and academic development or remedial courses.
*Although the University accepts all appropriate course work with a D grade or better, some departments to not accept D’s for transfer credit.

The IAI is another way to smoothly transfer your credit to SIUE. IAI is a statewide program to help students easily transfer among participating Illinois colleges and universities. By completing a minimum of 37 semester hours in required IAI courses, you will have satisfied SIUE’s General Education program with the exception of an Interdisciplinary (IS) course, which is a graduation requirement. We do not expect you to have met this requirement when you transfer; it requires junior status and cannot be transferred from any community college. For more information about the IAI, visit the Web site at www.itransfer.org.
Transfer students who earn an Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Sciences (A.S.) degree or the Associate of Arts and Science degree (A.S.A.) also will be considered to have completed SIUE General Education courses with the exception of the IS course as described above. Transcripts of students who have not earned an A.A. or A.S. degree, or those transferring from schools outside Illinois, will be evaluated course by course.
Students who have successfully completed a college-level English course equivalent to our ENG 101 or ENG 102, and at least an intermediate algebra course, will not need to take SIUE placement tests. Without these minimum requirements, some portions of the placement test may be necessary. Should you need to take any or all portions of the placement test, you will need to do so at least three days before registering for classes.
SIUE does not offer university credit for life or work experience. However, SIUE accepts CLEP/Proficiency/ Advanced Placement credit toward a baccalaureate degree. Proficiency exams are offered in many disciplines. A complete listing is available in the undergraduate catalog.
Students who have completed military basic training may be eligible for 2 hours of credit for physical education and 2 hours for health education. If you have served six months or more of active duty, you may receive an additional 2 hours for military studies.
Although SIUE does not limit the number of credits accepted from other schools, at least 60 semester hours of degree credit must be earned at a four-year college or university. A minimum of 30 of those hours must be earned at SIUE.
Transfer students wanting to know how their courses will transfer to SIUE before they apply for admission are welcome to submit a copy of their transcript(s) to the Office of Admissions for an unofficial transcript evaluation.
