Freshmen

Welcome to the SIUE community.  Please review the following information carefully for your next steps to complete your SIUE enrollment.

Your admission is valid only for the term indicated in your admission letter.  If you are unable to attend this term and wish to be considered for a future term, please submit a new application.  (You may do this for two additional consecutive terms before another application fee will be required.)  Additional information for admitted students is available at www.siue.edu/prospectivestudents/admitted/.  Please feel free to contact the Office of Admissions regarding any additional questions about SIUE.

Your admission was based on your academic record to date and is contingent on successful completion of any course work in which you may now be enrolled. Prior to the start of classes for the term in which you plan to enroll, you must have your final official transcript with your graduation date indicated on the transcript sent to the Office of Admissions, Campus Box 1600, SIUE, Edwardsville, IL  62026-1600.
  

Registration

All Admitted Students

  • The SIUE undergraduate catalog and class schedules are online at www.siue.edu/registrar.
  • All new freshmen are admitted as undeclared majors. During your advisement session, you will have an opportunity to discuss the process of applying for a major.
  • College credit earned from other regionally accredited institutions must be sent on official transcripts from the granting institution directly to the Office of Registrar. Any college credits obtained while attending high school also must be reported on an official transcript from the college or university at which the credit was earned.  Send to:  Office of Registrar, C/O Service Center, Box 1080, SIUE, Edwardsville, IL  62026-1080.
  • If required, placement testing information will be included in the packet with your registration information. You can find additional information about placement testing and register for necessary tests at www.siue.edu/IS/TEST/PLACE.

Students Admitted for Fall

  • New freshmen admitted for the fall term will be advised and registered for courses during the Springboard to Success program; information and registration for this program are available online at www.siue.edu/prospectivestudents/admitted/.  Invitations to the Springboard to Success program are mailed beginning in February. Attendance at this program is mandatory, and students must submit the Springboard to Success registration/enrollment fee prior to May 15; this fee is nonrefundable. All Springboard to Success registrations and fees submitted after May 15 will be considered on a space-available basis.
  • New freshmen and parents should attend the New Freshman Welcome and Convocation the Saturday before classes begin.

Students Admitted for Spring or Summer

  • New freshmen admitted for the spring or summer term are required to schedule an hour advising appointment with an academic adviser in the Office of Academic Counseling and Advising, www.siue.edu/ADVISING. You will receive specific information about your advising appointment at a time appropriate to your first term at SIUE.

  
Housing

Apply early for on-campus housing as spaces will fill quickly. See the housing information enclosed in your admission packet for the deadlines for the deadlines.  Applications for housing and payment of deposit can be made online at www.siue.edu/housing.

Health Service

Proof of immunization is required by state law for new students, and should be submitted prior to the first day of your first term of attendance. Further information and the immunization form are included in your admission packet.  You also may print this form and obtain additional information at www.siue.edu/healthservice.

Disability Support Services

Disability support services are available. More information is available at www.siue.edu/dss.
   


Transfers

Your admission was based on your academic record to date and is contingent upon successful completion of any course work in which you may now be enrolled. If you are now enrolled at another school, you must have a final official transcript sent to the Office of Admissions, Box 1600, SIUE, Edwardsville, IL  62026-1600 from the college or university you are now attending.  Hand-carried, faxed, or transcripts mailed in by students will not be accepted. Intentional nondisclosure of transfer credit may result in dismissal from the University. Please feel free to contact the Office of Admissions regarding any additional questions about SIUE.

Transfer Evaluation

  •  If you are pursuing a first baccalaureate degree, SIUE’s Credit Articulation and Degree Audit (CADA) staff will evaluate within 15 working days credit submitted on official transcripts from regionally accredited institutions. You may review the results of this evaluation by accessing your transcript online at www.siue.edu/COUGARNET.
  • If you are pursuing a second bachelor’s degree, your general education requirements are considered complete, and individual courses will not be evaluated.
  • Additional information regarding the way in which SIUE evaluates transfer course work, as well as CADA contact information, may be obtained online at www.siue.edu/registrar/transfer/admit.shtml.

Admission/Registration

  • Before you register, you will need to meet with an adviser. It is important that you ensure that your transfer course work has been evaluated before you meet with an adviser if you are pursuing your first bachelor’s degree. The adviser will use this information to assist you in understanding the manner in which transfer courses apply to SIUE degree requirements.
  • The SIUE undergraduate catalog and class schedules are online at www.siue.edu/registrar.
  • If you hold an A.A., A.S., A.S.A., or bachelor’s degree and you meet requirements for the proposed major indicated on your application for admission, you have been declared directly into your chosen major. Please contact the major department for an advisement appointment. (See departmental phone list.)
  • All other students enter SIUE as undeclared and during you academic advisement appointment will have the opportunity to discuss the requirements for declaring a major.
  • Undeclared transfer students are required to schedule an hour advising appointment with an academic adviser in the Office of Academic Counseling and Advising, www.siue.edu/ADVISING. TRANSFERmation

Held in December (spring term) and August (fall term), TRANSFERmation is an opportunity for you and other SIUE transfer students to learn more about SIUE and ease any concerns you have about your transition to campus. Invitations will be sent before each program session, and a registration form is available online one month prior to each program at www.siue.edu/prospectivestudents/admitted/.


Re-Entry and Visiting Students

Re-Entry Registration (degree-seeking)

  • Eligible students are readmitted into the class and major (if available) under which they left. If you have indicated a different proposed major on your application for readmission, you have been readmitted as an undeclared major. You will have the opportunity during your academic advisement appointment to discuss the requirements for declaring your major. Your admission letter shows your major field status. Undeclared majors should contact Academic Counseling and Advising at 618-650-3701 to schedule an appointment (www.siue.edu/ADVISING). Declared majors should contact the major department for advisement. (See departmental phone list.)
  • If you have college credit from regionally accredited institutions other than SIUE, you must submit official transcripts from the granting institution to Office of Registrar, C/O Service Center, Box 1080, SIUE, Edwardsville, IL  62026-1080. Please note any college credits obtained while attending high school must be reported on an official transcript from the college or university at which the credit was earned. Visiting Registration (This admission status indicates you are not pursuing a degree at SIUE.)

  • Registration occurs in the Service Center (Rendleman Hall, Room 1309). Information regarding registration is available at www.siue.edu/registrar/visiting.
  • The following restrictions apply:
  • You may enroll in any undergraduate course for which you have satisfied appropriate prerequisites. Students may be required to present evidence of prerequisite completion.
  • Enrollment in graduate-level classes is not permitted.
  • Credit earned as a visiting student is not applicable toward a graduate degree at SIUE.
  • Credits earned while in visiting status cannot exceed 30 semester hours at SIUE.
  • You may not be eligible for veterans’ educational benefits or most other forms of financial assistance. Check with your home institution to see if you are eligible to receive aid through a consortium agreement. Please call 618-650-3880 if you have questions regarding financial aid or student employment.
  • If you wish to pursue an undergraduate degree program at SIUE in the future, you will need to apply for admission to the University as a degree-seeking student. To be reclassified, you must satisfy the appropriate admission requirements. Please refer to the Office of Admissions Web site at www.siue.edu/prospectivestudents/ for admission requiremes.
