The investigation into the above armed robbery is continuing. A cell phone, a set of keys, and two hundred dollars in cash were taken from the male student. All three of those items have been recovered and a person of interest has been identified. At this time, the person of interest has no known affiliation to the University. We are committed to the safety and security of the SIUE community. Crime reduction on campus requires the continued active support of the University community. Following are some crime prevention tips that will help us achieve that goal:

  • STAY ALERT! Be aware of your surroundings and who is around you. Know where you are going and the route you will take.
  • Avoid walking or jogging alone, especially at night. Vary your route and stay in well-traveled, well-lighted areas.
  • If you feel apprehensive about walking alone on campus, take advantage of the ESCORT SERVICE the Police Department offers by calling 650-3324. As soon as an officer is available, they will come to your location.
  • Become familiar with the Emergency Phones that are located along the bike paths and parking lots on campus. Know how to use them so if you are in an emergency situation you will know which button to push and can save valuable time.
  • If you are the victim of a crime, report it immediately. Time is critical in these situations. The less time that transpires between the incident and the police being notified can make the difference of apprehending the perpetrator or the perpetrator getting away and possibly attacking another victim.
  • Look out for others and yourself--if you see something that looks suspicious, REPORT IT!!

You can reach the SIUE Police Department by calling the non-emergency number at 650-3324.

KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN AND, PLEASE, IF YOU SEE OR HEAR ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS, REPORT IT IMMEDIATELY!!!
