The SIUE School of Pharmacy American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) student chapter received the national runner-up Chapter Achievement Award in the AAA Category (less than 350 students enrolled in a school) at the 2012 APhA Annual meeting in March 2012.
"The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) School of Pharmacy has achieved a 100% pass rate on the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX) and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE) during the September 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011 testing cycle. The SIUE School of Pharmacy graduates also received a 100% pass rate on the NAPLEX and the MPJE during the May 1, 2011 to August 31, 2011 testing cycle. Congratulations to all the SIUE School of Pharmacy faculty, staff, preceptors and graduates for a job well done!
Scott Bergman's article Interferons as Therapeutic Agents for Infectious Diseases has been published and appeared in a journal published by Elsevier. Co-authors are McKenzie Ferguson and Cathy Santanello .
Dr. Jessica Kerr was awarded the Illinois Pharmacist of the Year Award.
Leslie Harmon (P4) tied for the Best Poster Award. The title of her poster was, "Web-based patient self-care questions." Her co-author was Dr. Miranda Wilhelm
Dr. Amy Carlson (she was Amy Vennell when she was in our program), Resident at the SIUE affiliated residency at St. John's in Springfield, IL, tied for the Best Poster Award. The title of her poster was, "Diabetes care act: Identifying public need." Her co-authors were Drs. Jeanine Cain and Jessica Kerr.
Cody Sandusky and Andrew Schwierjohn, are recipients of the 2011 National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Presidential Scholarship Award. The NCPA Foundation awards this competitive scholarship on the basis of leadership qualities and accomplishments with a demonstrated interest in independent pharmacy, as well as involvement in extracurricular activities. Furthermore, the NCPA Foundation Scholarship Committee regards scholastic and academic success as necessary considerations for the award.
Cody and Andrew will receive their award on Sunday October 9th, 2011 at the NCPA Annual Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. The award consists of a monetary award of $2,000 to be applied towards tuition/fees/books, and a $300 award to defray travel costs to the conference.

2011 CLINICAL RESEARCH AWARD

SCHOOL OF PHARMACY WINS NATIONAL AWARD
The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), which is an organization that comprises 3,000 colleges and universities and recognizes 60 accrediting organizations, has recognized the SIUE School of Pharmacy as one of four institutions/programs with the 2011 CHEA Award for Outstanding Institutional Practice in Student Learning Outcomes. A team comprising Professors Timpe, Cindy Wuller, Devraj and Luer submitted an application for the award in fall 2010. The cornerstone of the application was our capstone program coordinated by Professor Cindy Wuller. All the efforts of the faculty, staff, students and all the other individuals within and outside SIUE who contribute to make our program excellent allowed the submission of a quality application.

Dr. J. Mark Ruscin received a grant from the Memorial Medical Center Foundation through the SIU School of Medicine for the project entitled, "Impact of resolving medication discrepancies on 30-day readmission rates among seniors."

Pharmacy Receives NIH Grant
The School of Pharmacy received an Academic Research Enhancement Award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study cancer. The grant for $215,000 will fund a 3-year research project in the lab of Dr. Joseph Schober in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Results of the research will significantly advance understanding of the molecular basis by which cancer cells move during tumor metastasis.
