Professional Background

How long have you been doing what you do?
As of February 2015, I began as Assistant Director for First Year Services. Prior to this, I was an Academic Advisor at SIUE for more than nine years.

How long have you been at SIUE?
Almost 12 years

How did you get here?
After graduating from Truman State University, I wanted to return home to the St. Louis area. I was very lucky to receive a job offer at SIUE.

What are you known for professionally? What do you have a knack for?
I am very knowledgeable about curriculum and very detail oriented. I am always available to answer questions and problem solve.

What do you love most about working at SIUE?
I love the diversity of students and interests at SIUE. I enjoy advising on all the different majors.

Are you involved in any professional organizations/groups?
I have been a member of NACADA (National Academic Advising Association) for more than 10 years.

What are your primary duties in your current position?

  • Supervising some of the advisors and professional staff in Academic Advising
  • As Assistant Director for First Year Services, I am involved in the planning and coordination of certain programs, such as Springboard, advising in the residence halls, SIUE Experience and the Honors Program.

Personal Information

Where can we find you when you’re not working?
When not at work, I am typically at home with my husband and two girls. They make me laugh! I also spend a lot of time reading and writing while I am pursuing my PhD. I try to run when I can and I hope to complete my third half marathon this year. I am also the advisor for the Gay Straight Alliance (GSA).
